Changing Oil

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I've owned my 2005 Z Roadster for 6 months and I have nearly 2000 miles. I called the dealer and asked about an oil change and they said that if I didn't get it changed every 3000 miles or 3 months (whichever came first) the warrentee would be void. Does that make sense.

The dealer was Tisher in Washington DC.

A:

read the owners manual and the recommended service intervals in it.

A:

That makes no sense, the oil change interval is like 3750.

A:

i haven't changed my oil for like 4500... only because my situation does not permit at this time... i will be dong it this friday though...

Well, I don't think you know either

I use Redline at $9.00/qt and change it out every 2800 - 3000 miles. Why cheap out on the oil when driving a 30K plus automobile?

Has anyone thought of a better way to change the oil? How about changing the screws to Dzus bolts. Still 14 bolts but at least it only
takes 1/4 turns. How about cutting a panel out so you can reach the
filter and drain plug. Could make another slightly larger panel with
Dzus bolts. I know between all of us, we can figure out a better
way to change the oil.

I decided that I am not taking my car to the dealer anymore because
of my treatment last time. I have bought several cars from these people
and to be treated so crappy, I want to do my own maintenance. Am I cutting off my nose to spite my face? It is actually worth $20 for someone
else to change the oil.

it's really not that hard to REALLY be that concerned with... i find AT LEAST on my car... and if it's on mine it should be on yours as well... that there are holes already in place EXACTLY where the drain plug and SHOT GLASS sized filter are located... what could be easier???

when i changed my oil in my civic i had to reach around the driveshaft, HOT exhaust pipe, the HOT oil pan, and some damn wire that ALWAYS gets in the way... right between the engine block and the fire wall... with only about 3 inches of room to turn and remove the baseball sized filter... you talk about taking the shape of a pretzel trying to get to it... try that!!!

so IMHO... changing oil in the Z is a BREEZE... good luck...
