A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Back in January I posted some alignment specs that I had my car set to, and you conferred that your Z had a similar alignment. I am curious to see how your tires are holding up. How many miles since you had the tires replaced? Any further alignments or suspension changes?
My first set of tires were replaced at 12k miles and the service dept. had my car aligned to settings they said would fix the problem. I just hit 21k miles, checked my tire wear with a tread depth guage, and was pleased to see that they are wearing PERFECTLY even. Just wondering.
A:
A depth gauge won't tell the story. What matters is the head-to-tail difference in the heights of the tread blocks on the inside tread. Betcha a dollar that your tires are feathered.
A:
Yeah... do you hear a roaring when driving at low speeds (with the
windows down)? I'm on my 3rd set ... that's the pavement fitting
the edge of your scalloped tire.

A:
joe and x, I know what the **** feathering is and it is absolutely not present. If the two of you are having problems with your Zs, I'm sorry. Displaying a vindictive attitude towards those of us without problems won't help you at all. x, you said you are on your third set. What proactive measurements are you taking beyond going back and forth to your local dealership? Surely by now you know the exact specifications that your car is aligned to, and I'm curious to see them.
A:
Our allignment was checkked three times and said to be in spec.
Still starting to get that roar at 7k miles. Slight, but anoing. Had the car on two long road trips.
A:
Zig Zag,
I only have a little over 11,000 miles which is about 7,000 past the alignment done for the feathering issue. Since I have an '04, they wouldn't replace the front tires, only do the cross swap and alignment. I've done nothing else to the suspension.
I have noticed recently that the roar is coming back, it's not as bad yet as it was before but it's there. And this is on more mileage than I had the first time.
I will probably call the service dept. soon and ask them what if anything they or Nissan will do for me.

A:
Dave, sorry to see the problem resurfacing. Maybe at least it won't be as severe this time around. Thanks for responding.
A:
Can you guys post your before and after alignment specs?
My SB ZR still feels like HEAVEN....what a wild ride!
A:
Can't believe that simply replacing ball joints will fix this situation unless the factory joints are flexing--this would be very wierd--and creating the so-called feathering. The new alignment specs are simply shifted toward toe in, with no allowance in the tolerance for toe out. The desired setting is for the max toe in according to the range in the spec.
