I checked the wiring to the speaker and to the rear of the HU and all checks okay. Is it possible that a bad speaker would be completely silent or would it still make noise? Also, are the rear speakers 6.5"? What a pain in the a$$ to get to them!

It is possible a bad speaker will produce no sound.
This might be a warranty issue if your car is under 36k miles and 3 years old.

If you have the non-BOSE system you have cheap chinese speakers in the back and there is a good bet that they have failed. But, if both have failed then the rear amp has probably gone out. And, that is in the hear unit

theres a very slim chance of BOTH speakers going out at the same time... i would have to agree with the amp issue... a blown speaker will still make some noise but it will sound incredibly terrible... like if you have pennies sitting on top of a speaker that was bumping... i haven't run across a speaker that was blown and didn't make any noise at all... but hey i'm still young...
