A&Q about 350Z
Q:
What do you guys think a 1997 Honda Prelude 110k mile auto trans worth?
My friend is selling one for $4000.
I am thinking to buy it for daily drive.
Thanks for any advice!
A:
Not over $3000 due to the mileage. Also, check to see that the timing belt has been done. Other than that you can get another 80K miles out of it.

I say skip on it. I had a 1997 Prelude and the auto tranny blew out. It wasn't until after I bought it that I learned that Preludes with that transmission are prone to problems and it will cost $6K to repair it (factory refurbished transmission plus labor). Since the thing is pretty sophisticated (for a auto transmission) AAMCO or any other transmission shop won't be able to properly fix it, only a bandaid fix.
I paid $8K for it a few years ago and wasn't about to pay another $6K to have it fixed. Plus I had it towed and broken into so I sold it as is for $3800 and took a big loss but I already had my 350Z so it wasn't so bad :P.
Here is the best site I found for the issue being covered, sit down read ALL of the post and get informed to make your decision. Trust me, I would honestly just say stay away from the auto, get the 5 speed and save yourself the headaches and have peace of mind! Good luck!

Here's another article on Honda transmission problems that was out just a few days ago. Honda may make excellent cars, but they're having a whole set of problems with their transmissions.
