JWT pop charger install question

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

For those that installed the JWT. When removing the orig nissan filter box, there is a 3" round rubber seal between the filter box and bolt on maf sensor conx. Nothing on the JWT install directions shows that this is to be installed between the new JWT aluminum housing and maf sensor. I called JWT and was told that it should NOT be installed with the new parts. I thought I had read on forum that people were installing it ??? Just wondering if you did and why?

"I think harrieyu has it right. At first it was thought the rubber seal was not allowing enough air to reach the intake at idle. So some were taking it out. There goes your cold air. That was just silly people not knowing what to do and wanting to blame something. But, I believe, that is was, as harrieyu states, the alignment issue of the MAF that caused this"

This comment is why I am wondering about this?

Zooom-

The seal I was writting about there is the sealing rubber between the hood and the JWT heat shield not the 3" round rubber seal. That seal is for the factory air box use. You do not need the 3" round rubber seal with the JWT cause the filter mates up with the tube nicely without it.

Keep the 3" round seal with your air box just in case you want to reinstall it for a visit to the dealer.

Have fun !!!

I can't understand that thought process. They kinda gave me the deaf ear when I wanted to get another rubber seal for the hood. Until I pushed it.

Oh well, it seems like customer service is like azzholes everyone has one and they are only good to S#!t with.

At least that is what I have been expriencing lately from the customer service reps I have been talking to.

On the other side of the fence, they are generally overworked. However, if I had talked to customers the way I have been talked to lately, I would have expected to be fired on the spot !!!

Sorry just burning off some steam.... Don't get me started on my dent repair and repaint job I'm going through right now. GRRRRRR .....

I checked my JWT last night. Alignment arrow off a 1/2" I don't think it would cause an issue. So far the car has performed great so it hadn't been a problem. This gave me a chance to reposition the Clamp for easy removal in the future. Originally, the speedshop installed it for free so I had them do it. They really wanted the sale. They must have been hurting. However, they forgot the rubber hood seal and I had to get that from JWT. They were gave me a little guff and wanted to charge me for what the kit was short. Then when it came down to it they gave it to me for free. I just ended up paying the shipping charges.

Now the shop had installed the clamp screw on the bottom. No biggy, you just have to take out one more screw for the support arm. Once again, I should have done it myself. Grrr ..... I just can't find shops that do things right. This was a well known Z shop. I mean they install Superchargers and all so you figure ...... oh anyways ...... I was able to clean the filter. It has only been 7K miles and it still looked really clean except for a bunch of leaves that were jambed up the center front in the recess.

You know how one thing lead to another. Now I', cleaning the engine bay and decide to spray my plenum. Took off the engine cover masked around the plenum, cleaned and sprayed it with dark gray engine hi temp paint. Looks nice! It's a lot easier to clean now as well and doesnt' allow the grease and stuff to get into that porious alum that it is made out of.

I'm happy .... hoping your JWT install went well.

Here's a couple pictures of mine:

I'v got to get rid of the blue water bottle cap ...

Hey mecinoid: Thanks for the follow up info and pics. I thought the same thing about the alignment arrows. Don't really know what difference it makes. Wouldn't have even noticed them if I hadn't read some comment here on the forum. Maybe someone can explain how the sensor works and what those alighment arrows are for??
I rechecked mine after initial install ( had a neighbor helping me) and arrows were off about 1/4 inch. Re-adjusted and noticed no difference. Nice job on the clean up, been thinking about doing the same thing on the plenum. It is hard to keep clean. The filter install is really one of those "do-it-yourself" jobs. Sounds like sloppy work that your installer did, especially considering the type of work they do. So why did your filter turn from blue to gray ? What oil did you use to recondition?
