I've got the Valentine 1. It isn't cheap but it works good. Better then any other one that I had bought before. Cool part about it, it tells you how many radars are going off.

I have three Valentine 1 Radar Detectors and love them. The wife had to have one and the other goes in my toy. $399 is cheap when you consider the alternative.

Another Valentine One fan here. Just make sure you send it in periodically for the $62 upgrades. I have two friend that own these. We sent one in for upgrade. Install both in car side by side. The upgraded/updated one is much much more effective after the tune up.
For you guys with the one to two year old versions .... give Valentine One a call for the update/upgrade. It is well worth the $62. ;

Any detector will do fine.
You have to follow some simple steps while speeding
1. (leach) never speed by yourself, always follow someone speeding far enough back so when your detector goes off you can slow quickly. If the car you're following catches up to other traffic (like in a 4 lane) and your not close enough be warry, cops will not shoot the instant on into a group of cars , they look for stragglers...this would be you
2. (step speeding) if you speed by yourself , only speed up to the car in front of you. if there is another car in front of them, then you can speed to them, and so on..
3. always watch the cars ahead of you, if they slow quickly around a curve or over a hill there may be a cop with instant on radar shooting traffic.
Never follow closely around a curve or hill. And remember sometimes that car your speeding up to is a cop and he can shoot you from the rear of his car.

No matter how much money you spend, they still won't save your ass from instant on radar guns. If you are in their sights, one click on the troopers radar gun, your detector starts screaming, you say a few expletives, then see the flashing red lights, and its all over.

actually radar jammers are LEGAL provided that they are PASSIVE and not ACTIVE... meaning like radar jammers such as Scorpion and Black Widow (i think) that actively search for and jam radars... are ILLEGAL... but one's like the Escort, and i think Phaser 2... are passive and simply alter the signal to confuse the radar, but it does not search for it... it waits until it hits, and then returns a messed up signal so the radar comes up blank... which to the cop looks like an equipment malfunction...
I remember reading a review that is DONE BY A COP with STATE OF THE ART radars and lasers... who says the only one wirth buying is the Escort... but remember...
with a jammer... your car is protected by and imaginary bubble... but much like a needle... the closer you get and/or bigger your cars is to the radar or laser the stronger of an effect the radar will have so eventually the radar will "punch through" and give the cop a reading... so Jammers are best used in conjunction with a radar... so if a cop IS "instant on"ing people your radar will let you know while your jammer gives you the extra time to reduce your speed...
but as for lasers... and i speak from experience... lasers MUST BE HELD STEADY... so unlike radars... that the cop can follow you with he cannot simply follow the passing car to get a readout... so this is why the front license plate frames that block laser signals are effective... b/c the first target for a cop is the license plate then i think your windshield... but rarely he/she will have enough time to do that...
choose wisely... speed safely... have fun and remember speed limits are SUGGESTIVE SPEED not written in stone must follow guidlines... although cops act like it is...
question:
Why do you think that they post a turn sign... followed by a 20MPH speed limit sign... that anyone can easily go 30-40 around???
Answer: Suggestive speed... to be ultimately safe for the STUPID People (as a whole) they under post to make sure that we do not over judge a turn... (and also to fatten their wallets...) but i won't speak of that too much...

i don't think i would either for the simple fact it's just not worth it but hey... i'm really just trying to say people need to go a little quicker... i'm kinda tired of being stuck behind of some dude whose so uptight and conservative that you couldn't squeeze a razor beween his ass cheeks with a sledge hammer... while he drive 20 MPH around a turn that i could do 50 on...
Obviously... i'm not going to go to court screaming that the speed limits are only suggestive... i've got better things to do...
