radiator & engine flush

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

No its a great idea to do a flush!
...but you certainly don't need to pay a dealership to drain your radiator, fill it with water and radiator flush, let it idle for an hour and then drain and refill with coolant and water.

Do it yourself, will take about 2 hours and cost about $40 for flush solution and coolant, plus a 12 pack of beer to keep you occupied while you watch the car idle for an hour. If you got a portable TV and some lawn chairs to set up in your garage you'd be totally set!

amen... most people don't realize how easy it is to do it yourself.

Instead of putting water and anti-freeze back in, how about trying "Evans NPG+"? Check out the specs at www.evanscooling.com

Draining and cleaning the system is a good idea every two years. Do not backflush the system with water pressure from a hose as it will blow the heater core. Follow the service manual and remove the block drain plugs on each side at the skirt and fill and drain the system three times. After everything drains you need to use distilled water and antifreeze in a fifty/fifty mix. Replace the radiator cap after four years.

What do do with the old 50/50 mix of water and anti freeze? You can't just put it down the drain right? Will somewhere like autozone get rid of it for you?

Check with the local waste management people as they take toxic chemicals.

I usually take my fluids to AutoZone or JiffyLube for proper disposal. They usually have no problems accepting them.
