Does anyone still have "new car smell". little over a year now (04-14-04) i get friends that tell me all the time that i still have that "new car smell". I think it's amazing that after so long i still do. Sometimes i even avoid driving with my windows down, because i think the new car smell is gonna vanished ( i know it's dumb, but thats me)

Same here. I get the same comment whenever someone rides my car.
They think that I just bought it and are surprised when I tell them I bought it 2 years ago.

I thought I was the only one. Bought it Jan of 03 and I still get that new car smell whiff when I open the door. I have never let anyone eat in my car and only allow bottled water. Even drove it on a 9 hour trip and still no food. Don't get me wrong, I drive it like I stole it when I can. I just like to keep it clean.

oh i feel your pain.....if anybody spills something on the floor mats, i'd replace it with a new one.
I think this is where the new car smell comes from.

yeah i was pretty pissed... luckily it was just the mat so i just pressure washed it and it was good as new... but another habit he has is sitting on my leather seats with his church key hanging on his belt loop... VERY high probability of poking holes in my seat... but he's gone outta town probably till next year... lol...

I've also heard (I think it was on 20/20 or 60 Minutes or something similar) that the new car smell is really just the new synthetic materials in the cabin breaking down as they age. All that new carpet, plastic, glue, etc. all gives off the VOCs that a previous poster mentioned.
Newness is cool, but huffing chemical vapors most definitely is not cool.
