A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi, I have a question. My friend has a 1999 Kia Sportage. It just had a complete service. The spark plugs, fuel filter, oil filter and air filter were all changed, but it takes off extremely slowly when you are at a stop and you give it gas, sometimes you even have to pump the gas just to get it going. Anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this? Thanks...

Sounds pretty normal to me.
Can be more spefic, slowly is a pretty meaningless term as its far to subjective.
Does it make any odd noises? or stutter or miss fire?
If you have to pump the gas pedal to get it going then it sounds like a problem with fuel supply or ignition.
The easiest solution would be to take it back to where ever it was serviced and point out the problems, and make sure you mention they only started after it was serviced.
It might be something as simple as a part being incorrectly installed.

Hi Moppie, thanks for the reply. It was doing this before it was serviced, but servicing didn't fix the problem. It doesn't make any strange noises or backfire or anything like that. For example if you are on a corner and you press the gas, it doesnt move right away then when it does it moves very slowly until you get the car going. Even if the gas pedal is floored it does this. Thanks...

If you put it in Neutral, does the engine rev freely, and run smooth?
And is it a manual or an Auto?
A:
sounds like the timing belt is off one tooth. Thats one possibility anyway. Could have other issues too, such as a bad/contaminated MAF sensor can cause simular issues.
Misfires can also cause it, and it won't always be obvious that its a misfire (stuttering, popping, etc that is usually associated with misfires)
There's many things, in other words, but I have to agree with moppie. Those cars aren't known for their sport-car like acceleration. But if its painfully obvious something is wrong, there's a couple items to play with.
A:
It doesn't matter how slow these cars are, you should never have to pump the accelerator to make it go. Check all vacuum hoses and connections. A vacuum leak could cause your symptoms, and costs little to fix.
A:
lol, but thats true I doubt you having to pump the pedal to get it going is normal. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it was.
