I've personally never owned one, but a couple of my friends have said its a remarkably fun tool. To paraphrase their words its great for comparison and hobbyist use, but as far as hardcore 1/4 mile tests they're only accurate to about a tenth.
I always wanted one just for the fun of it. Even if the "dyno" test is only good to a couple percent, it will tell me how much power I'm making within 10 hp. Good enough for my daily driver

and ya it would be nice to measure how much power i put out, and it all just goes into the cig lighter?

Like said above they are pretty cool, its best used for measuring differnces though. Such as X before and X after such part and stuff along those lines.

If you put your car on a weigh bridge, enter the given weight (assuming the bridge is acurate) then start your run from the bridge, you will get a very acruate time.
But weigh your car, add half a tank of gas, take out the lundry, swap your fat g/f for a skinny one and your times will be less accurate.

do dynos factor in the weight when you test a car on them?

no because dynos measure whp. the G-tech basically guesses. It uses the amount of time and the weight to reach given speed to determine HP.

The Gtech uses accelerometers to determine how fast you get from point A to point B. It can extrapolate all it needs to determine how much acceleration forces you create, but it can't know how that translates to HP unless you supply it with weight.
You can use a dyno to determine HP, then use the weight to make a guess at acceleration. The Gtech uses acceleration and weight to make a guess at HP.

F=ma
d=1/2 mv^2
w=F*d
P=w/t
thats all t uses to calculate horsepower. hell if you got an digital accelerometer, a stopwatch, and the weight of your car, you could do it yourself. but this is alot easier.
