Hi, fellas. I was flippin through super chevy the other night when this kinda got me wondering. Seemingly all supercharged race engines seem to use those street scoops with the butterfly valves, what I'm wondering is how do those aide them performance wise and would the same scoops be gainful or a hinderence to a n/a engine? Also I've never aclually looked into one so I'll go ahead and bite the bullet here by asking: Is there air cleaner of some sort inside the scoop? Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

no, those scoops would be fairly useless on an NA engine, they just use them because the height of the supercharger sticks the intake out of the hood anway. Most of them don't use a true air cleaner and just use a screen above the supercharger. They are rarely driven in environments that aren't totally clean and get oil changes very frequently.

If it's performace that you want, take a look at the inlets used in formula one. Those intakes add about 50 hp at 350 km/h.
