just starting to learn about internal combustion engines....

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

alrighty so i've been doing my fair share of research on the above topic and i'm slowly starting to get the mechanics of a car and how all the parts work in unison to produce power and such (crankshafts, cams, intake/exhaust valves, catalytic converters, and all that great stuff). but...i can't seem to tell the difference between a header and an exhaust manifold. meh, noobish question i know.

They are really just the same thing, but the above howstuffworks link does a pretty good job of explaining why a tuned manifold useing individual runners could be called a header.
