The "rubix cube of motors"

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

OK, so my buddy just got a 95 RX7 off ebay for $4500. the guy said it smoked and probably needed a rebuild. well, he wasnt lying. ANYWAY, This is my first time evn seeing a rotary in person. WHERE DO WE START? i have no clue how this thing works, ive looked at drawings, read books, everything, i cant figure out how this thing ticks.

in theory and operation they are extremely simple motors. If you dont understand how a piston engine works then you wont understand a rotory. there are many videos about how to rebuild them.

check
and they will show you how they work.

also there is a rotory engine simulator for your computer that you can download and will help you a lot.
A:

Do you have the RX7 shop manual? Its a bit expensive, but it should outline everything step by step.
A:

the shop manual for my truck was only $15

A:

just go to mazda and buy a rebuilt 13b from them. you dont have the tools or the resources needed to rebuild one. and if its a twin turbo model i pity you. you will want to set it ablaze just trying to get the thing out.

i dont really expect you to believe me though, no one else ever does when i tell them to ditch these pieces of shit...
A:

Ouch, sounds like you have had a few bad experiances with them.

A:

yeah, so did i. but i still love them. All the love in the world won't change the fact taht they're OLD and they BREAK, a LOT!
A:

A well taken car of Rotary will last as long as your average gasoline piston engine. However this is assumeing it was taken care of from the begining.
A:

I'm guessing that "shop manual" is a chiltons or hynes... which are not real shop manuals.

If you dont understand how it works your probably not going to be able to rebuild it. And like said above, you probably dont have the tools to rebuild it.
A:

yeah, not a "shop manual" but anything that you can do with even tools that you cant buy at your local Sears or Autoparts store is in there. Complete engine tear down and rebuilt etc... however ive only done research on Rotaries and never physically done a tear down on one and i dont know if the Hynes Book for it (if there is one) has that step by step instruction.
