A&Q about 350Z
Q:

hi, i just started getting into cars so i don't know a lot but just a few basics and need to clear things up first that i never quite understood. when HP is listed as eg. 250HP/5000rpm does it mean u reach 250HP at 5000rpm? also y is more torque better? and finally how does boost provide performance? sorry, i know these questions are similiar to others but they really didn't clear things up for me. thanks
A:

yes

Torque is what gets you moving. Torque and is a direct correlation to hp. Think of torque as the integral of horsepower. Hopefully you've studied integrals in school. More hp under the curve means more torque.

think of an engine as a big vacuum. Atmospheric pressure is not overcome on a n/a engine. Well, sometimes slightly, but its negliable. Adding more air to the combustion chamber (needs more fuel too) means more hp. Thats pretty much the simple jist of it.

Yeah, if you need more info, I suggest starting with the links below. It sounds kinda corny, but howstuffworks.com is a great introductory site to start learning about cars with.

k umm the sound a BOV makes, does it occur when u shift up? and also wat is a safe amount of boost to use?
A:

a BOV or bypass valve releases pressure during shifts or when decelerating when positive boost pressure is present. Having all that boost pressure diverted back to the compressor without having a bypass value is hard on the turbo and is a good way to wear it out.

Boost varies on every motor. You have to take a lot of things into consideration such as what turbo, compression, intake temperatures, what octane gas your using, timing, elevation, strength of internals, etc.
A:

is installing a BOV easy? i read that all ur basically doing, if u already have one as stock, is removing it and putting a new one on.
A:

im sure there are some that are direct swaps, but others require you to reweld an adapter.
A:

since i have no one in my family who works on cars and stuff, like others it's gonna be hard for me to install parts, i might just get a car that already has the stuff i want installed
anyway thanks for the info.
