power steering fluid flush

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have a 1999 nissan altima with 115k on it. The power steering fluid is original and with me being a maintenace freak I want to change it. The flush wouldn't be all that hard because it has a remote reservoir. My question though is to whether or not to go with synthetic (the system uses transmission fluid). I am aware of what can happen when switching to synthetic in an engine i.e. leaks that are present can be made worse, etc. I have never done this with a power steering system before so I am not sure what would happen. It currently has no leaks so I wouldn't think anything would happen but I could be wrong. Thanks for the help!!!

Leaks from synthetic usually occur in engines with cork or paper gaskets. Since you're PS system uses flare fittings and O-rings it shouldn't leak.

Just pull the hoses off the reservoir and put them down in the drain pan. That won't get it all, but at least most of it.
