A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi.
My husband has a 1970 GMC suburban, his grandpa drove it brand new off the lot...it was my husbands grad pres. he spent many a happy day in it...and i would really like to get it up and going again....but here is the prob...
he thought it was the carb...so we just switched it to a nice elderbrock...but that wasnt it
He can accelerate and then not...esp up any incline...
it seems to be missing on two cylinders and we are stumped...in the reading ive done im wondering about a cracked head gasket...but he is not convinced (im hoping im wrong, trust me!)....anyways I was wondering if anyone had any advice?
or if i put this post in the right area?
If you have any info I would be so blessed, I really want to get it going for him...He would be so happy...

I took the liberty of moving this from Classic Cars; likely here there will be more input.
The description "he can accelerate then not" makes me think its a fuel delivery problem, such as a clogged fuel filter, fuel line clogged or allowing air in, (between the tank and the pump) or bad fuel pump.

edelbrock carbs can be finicky to tune, and definitely don't always have correct jetting out of the box.
If you have the exact same symptoms before and after, I would assume you either have a misfire problem that in unrelated to the fuel metering, or you have low fuel flow to the carb, although there is too little info to narrow it down any.
I'd pull all the spark plugs, check them for even color and look for abnormal deposits. If there is any inconsistancy, I'd check compression and check your secondary ignition system.
Its pretty rare for a small block chevy to have head gasket problems, although some do crack around the valve seats....but not very common.
