A&Q about 350Z
Q:
hey, i have an old 1972 galant, and the exhaust has broken off (engine side), it is used as a paddock bomb and in pretty crap condition.
what should i do?
and how will i go about doing this
help grealty appreciated, pete
A:
Firstly- A 1972 Mitsubishi Galant?(I don't mean to sound naive) Secondly, I don't understand when you say 'paddock bomb'. If the exhaust is broken on the manifold, you can either A. Weld it back together, or B. Replace it. Availability and cost would be my determining factors for which route I would take.
A:
we call em paddock bombs in aus, its just means, an old car, which teenagers for example would drive (on their property) as they cannot drive on the road.
whats the consequence of taking it off completely and not putting back on?
A:
suggestion,
If the exhaust is broken after the pipes reach under the car replace the exhaust with PVC pipe and angle it straight out the side. Or if ya handy with welding weld a big pipe on to the extracter part and angle it straight out of the side.
A:
good idea, as for now though, before i organise this, is it okay to drive it around w/out it?
A:
If it's in the extractor area, don't drive it for too long at a time, coz it will overheat quick as.
no worries
A:
wouldn't pvc pipe melt?
A:
The fumes created when PVC burns are highly toxic. Not to mention that it would melt even if it did not burn.
A:
I've seen it done,
as long as its not too close to the engine you should be alright
A:
Really. My tail pipe is hot enough to discolor the stainless tip. I would still be apprehensive due to the fumes. Besides exhaust pipe is cheap.
A:
fair enough i've seen it done,
but the you can always try the metal tube option
A:
Yeah, I have seen some "crazy" thing work fine over the years. Just never seen this one. What is that car in your sig? Look like a wild ride.
A:
XD falcon,
