something is terribly wrong with my car, i need help :)

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have a 1993 Dodge Shadow, five speed standard. I purchased it recently, and it's really tough to get it into first gear. I could deal with that, then last night the car "ate" second and fourth gear...and I can only immagine the other three arn't far behind. By "ate" I mean that I went to shift from first to second, pushed in the clutch and it shifted into second like I was shifting into a sponge. It didn't seem to "catch" and when I released the clutch and gave it gas all it did was rev. I got it into third and then the same scenario going into fourth. It's not happy times, and I'm not sure if it's the clutch, the tranny, or something simpler. Help!

A:

try double clutching, shift into neutral and let the clutch out inbetween each shift, this will help equalize the speeds of the different shafts inside the trans, if this helps, the syncros (inside the trans) may need replaced.

other possibltys are the shifter cables and the clutch
A:

its not the clutch if first gear works.

its probably the synchros. Its cheapest to just replace that transmission, you can get a working one from a junkyard for $100.
A:

Its likely the shifter cables. Chances are the trans is fine.
There are actually 3 seperate cables in one housing for the shifter. I had a VW Rabbit that did the same thing. In the end, I had third gear and 16 neutrals. But the trans was fine.
A:

i'm willing to bet that shadow only has two shifter cables, it is FWD right?
A:

yup yup, FWD. Five speeds, 4 cyl

hahahaha, sorry...
