A&Q about 350Z
Q:
i was just thinking like always, and i wondered if it could be possible cool brakes and rotors off using small sprays of co2 on the caliper and rotor while braking?
im wondering though if it would crack the rotors?
A:
probably not a good idea. standard rotors would definately crack, if you were running ceramic rotors, they might not crack, but if they did, it would cost big time. a better alternative is air cooled brakes. besides, brakes are meant to have some heat in them. all brake systems are meant to work within a specific heat range.
A:
the truck racing here in the UK often employs water sprays for the front disks, and you often see the steam emerging from the wheels. that said, they do weigh 5 metric tons and this might not work so well on a car. air ducting is tried, tested and proven to help braking cooling, best stick to that.
A:
yeah i guess air cooling is the best way to go and the safest of course

another thing is that even though they might not crack, they'll probably warp. if you heat them up to the point where they need it, then spray them, you won't be able to get an even, slow, cool all around so you'll cool some areas really wuickly while others might not cool as quickly. i wouldn't suggest it because of that and the fact that you'd have to get co2 refills pretty often.
