read the stickies. This is exactly what they are there for.
If you are looking for more specific info, then you will have to be more specific

well... i want to learn about putting a car together like.. mortor work, how a motor works and runs, how do i know if my car is running bad.. how to put a new tranny in there.. just.. i wanna learn how to fix a car o.o i cant be more spasific...
A:
it's got a basic explanation of everything. if you still have questions after reading the info on that site, search these forums, if you can't find the information here, post a thread. hope this helps, it's how i started.
A:
if you have any extra cash why not buy an older car and just take it apart/work on it? hands on is the best way to learn
A:
Yea im just 17 myself and howstuffworks.com helped quite a bit, alot of google searches, this site is great but the best is hands on,cant sayI I got to much of that though.
A:
thank you alot guys!! iv leanred a little bit by howstuffworks.com im notbanging my head off the wall anymore.. i cant wait untill i get to accshaly start working with cars in september, if anyone has any other pointers that would be great, but for the most part thank for for yours guys support in helping me learn a little bit..
Zack
A:
What are you doing in september that involves cars?
A:
I'm 16, and howstuffworks pretty much tought me all i know so far (about motors, tranny, cat-systems, differentials, etc) and i'll prolly end up buying a beater just to take apart and put back together soon.
A:
well in september im going back to school, and we do this thing called Co-op its when your put into a workplace station.. and i picked auto mechanic cause i was interested.. i just wanna figure everything out now soo i wont be lost and i have a bit of a head start
A:
chances are that you'll be doing mostly cleaning up and meaningless jobs. i worked at a mechanic for a while as a paid employee and i started cleaning and helping out when people needed someone to hold something and stuff like that. i eventually did oil changes and changing body parts, like i changed the grille on a civic, took off the fenders and hood on a crown vic, and not much more. you might get lucky and get a really helpful guy who wants to teach you something, but don't get your hopes up, you'll probably be doing crappy work. good luck though, i hope you get it better than i did.
A:
o.o well... it would be nice to accshaly learn somthing.. o.o im a fast learner when i see things done.. if well i dont get to do much ill probably just watch, if anything it will be better for me to see things done then just reading about them on the net.. but.. i really do i hope i get somthing good out of this whole thing..but we can only hope i supose

We have something similiar to that were I go to H.S, in grades 11 and 12 you pick a BOCES program that you do for half the day every day for 2 school semesters, its free(
,ive been told outside of school a program like this costs around 5-10 grand, i know kids who did it in the past and I guess you are basically a "mechanic" when you graduate from it, but im not to sure yet, by the way im also doing auto mechanics, but like the one guy was saying how he cleaned up and barely did any actually hands on,this you work on motors, suspension, brakes, everything,Im sure I'll like it.
A:
lol your veryy luckey >< well.. i cant judge the school or anything yet.. cause im not sure what will happen.. but hey.. o.o things take time.. and if i start from the bottem cleaning stuff.. well i guess thats a sacrifice that will have to be made:P i just hope it isent a waste of my time..

The best way to learn about engines/cars is with hands on experience. If you don't have acess to a car, maybe try an old lawnmower engine, they're very simple in design, but at least you can get the basic idea, & you can usually find an old lawnmower for free or under $20.
