Catalytic convertor replacement

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

The catalityc converter on my car stopped working so the car had no power and was stalling up hill and no check engine light went on
so I drilled a hole into the exhaust pipe right before the converter and the car runs ok but noisy .

My question is:
the exhaust pipe is 2" thick, should I buy a catalytic converter with a 2" pipes or 2.1/4"pipes for better fit? ( I can slide the converter right over the exhaust pipe)
If I buy a 2" one I have to stretch the pipe somehow to be able to slide the converter pipes in.

Can be this done without welding using some kind of bracket to seal the join?

thanks
A:

you can stretch it or take it to a muffler shop and do it. I personally would weld it, I dont like exhaust clamps.

Thanks
Isn't is easyer just buy a 1/4" larger converter and then there is no need to stretch?
A:

Yeah usually.
