No cat on a ZX2 escort Ok?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I agree with that. I just think that in the case of the escort its not anywhere near 3 psi. You're right, we're on the same page, just dancing around the numbers.
A:

Ok, I'm like way over my head here....
So, virtually no HP gain, I've gotten that. And the computer can adjust to the pressure changes without damaging the motor? What about sound? Would hollowing out the cat and wiring my MIL eliminator and putting on shorty headers make any considerable difference in sound?
If it's just gonna be a negligible difference I'll just leave the cat alone and put the headers on.
I should have mentioned sound was just as important here as power

I'd really like to know how the MIL eliminator works, because I don't see how it could prevent the light from coming on, based off of how the system tests the rear o2 for cat efficiency, and what I know of on those MIL eliminator setups.....but the documents for them are always very dumbed down.

I hope they work, otherwise there would probably be a lot of pissed off people. But if anyone else can add some info on how they fool the computer during a cat efficiency test, and how they know when the computer is doing it, would be good to know.

As far as sound, it will be a little louder no dout. If you have a really loud exhaust, it will get louder. I don't know what you define as "good" sound. I personally can't stand teh sound of an open exhaust on a stock 4 cylinder engine. Sounds like crap to me.
A:

Iv found it depends very heavily on the engine, and what you define as an "open" exhaust.
Open headers on a Toyota 2tge sounds bloody fantastic.
A 2.5 inch exhaust with no muffler on a suitably modified Ford 1600 Kent motor also sounds damn awsome.
Open headers on a Lotus TwinCam is just soul modifing, especialy when its an old forumla 2 motor.

Well, I had my Pacesetter shorty put on.... It's DEFINATELY louder- sounds way more throaty.... I'm even hearing that I sound like an imitation WRX, lol. One thing that concerns me is that when I hit high RPM's (5000+), particularly in second gear, as I let up quickly on the gas to shift I can hear a fairly loud "whooshing" sound from the tail pipe; like air escaping really quickly. Is this normal?
A:

maybe if ur lucky, people will think its a blow off valve...
lol.
