A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I was wondering what are the down sides and dangers of cutting the coil springs to lower the ride height of the car are?
Thanks
A:
There really are no advantages other then it's free...you're lower, but you still have the same crappy stock spring rates.
A:
and youll be replacing your struts shortly after you do it.
A:
My struts are already shot. Just wondering though. Why would I be replacing my struts shortly after doing this??? If I do deciede to go though and cut them, I'm only looking for a small 1 inch drop. If that helps out any.
Thanks
A:
actaully, you're increasing your spring rate. Your ride will be even stiffer. And it will suck, and creak and bottom out and and its just the ghetto route to go.
but hey, if you don't care, go for it.
A:
Actually your rates will change. They will increase by an undeterminable amount. In a word, don't. Just don't do it. You can take the same length off of both coils and you might drastically change the rates and ride heights of both. If you absolutely must cut them, use an air cut-off tool with a new cutting disc of the same brand for EACH cut and constantly flush it with cold water to minimze heating.
You still may put stress fractures in the coil causing the big variations in rate and durability. They will also "settle in" differently.
Pony up the $138 for a set of aftermarket springs.

dont do it, i test drove a 4runner some guy lowered by cutting, got on the highway and the whole thing shook uncontrollably like the car was about to fall apart into 30 peices, the entire body will clank at high speeds, bad bad idea

I heard it was the ultimate performance trick though.
Seriously dude, don't do it. It's not good, for anything.
