A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I want that deep sport compact sound from my exhaust and im not sure what causes that...is it more the tip or the muffler all together or a mix of the two...i dont want to spend too much because its dual exhaust and i was wondering if a certain kind of tip would do the job....
A:
I to am wondering this. Usualy adding a tip doesnt do anything, its just for looks. Does a muffler add the low tone or is it a combo of a cat back kit that adds it. And what is the purpose of a high flow cat on a cat back system? And does it help with the low tone? Can any car sound like this or just certain engines.
A:
increase the diameter size of your exhast pipes and your muffler size. and tips do make things louder just depends on how big the tip is. Just don't add a huge 3" exhast system because then your car will sound like a super charged vaccum cleaner

I have a 3800 GM engine with 2 1/4-2 1/2" piping(factory) and looking to see what a high flow cat and muffler will do to the sound. Looking at a muffler that is straight through 2 1/4 to 4" outlet. And having a CAI mandrel bent to help breathing out too. Would this do the trick since my car sounds like a high pitched vaccuum now and sounds like crap when i rev it up.
A:
cobra you have an l67 supercharged? anyway I wouldn't put a 4" outlet you will lose HP doing that I wouldn't go more than 3" at the most if you just want the sound and not the performance. You'll get that lower tone but it will still sound like a super chargered vaccum cleaner. I'd go with a 2 1/2'' or 2 2/3" (if they make 2 2/3") piping all around the whole exhast system and a 3" muffler outlet just so you get to keep your most of your HP and still have that souped up car sound.

I dont have a SC yet, I have a core thoughand most of the engine parts to add one. (500$ and removing everything myself) Anyways, I already have 2 1/2 from factory system, I'll have to look to see if i can find a 3" outlet. The 4" i was looking at is only 99$ though...thats why i was wondering.

I have a 1990 Buick Century with a 3300, it sounds good with the 2 1/2" factory exhaust, factory cat, and about the last 40 inches or so of the exhaust system I replaced it with a straight pipe, dynomax turbo muffler box, and a set of 2 1/2" stainless steel dual exhaust tips. but like I said that sounds good, not "sport compact" but I'll admit that it does have a nice growl to it once it warms up!

since it is just $100 I'd go for it but it would be ricer loud. you can get a muffler silencer if it is too loud.
Get creative with your exhast system. Find some wierd tip to put on it like mine haha. And yes I know it looks like two vaccum cleaner ends(sounds like a ricermoblie but it get attention). They were so unique and something I have never seen before and that is one of the many reasons why I bought my car I have now.
Or you can weld 2 muffler pipes together to make it dual exhaust.
That pipe was literally plamsa cut off an old sunfire and just welder to the main pipe (but the second one gets all the flow) and put a new dual exhaust back bumper on and there is the new system.
Just alittle fun fact about this car. It was $1200 rims on it also but it was owned by a guy that was about to turn 70 years old! He really loved this car.
