Insuring a 2nd car

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Been doing some research on insuring my GTI as a 2nd car under a limted mileage policy, spoke to a broker this morning who specialises in classics, was quoted £150 for a year limited to 3k miles, was all set to purchase the policy until the kind man informed me they specify you have to be 30 to drive a GTI
Anyone reccomend anyone to insure the car with? I'll be only using it very occasionally, probably about 3k P/A, I'm nearly 27 with 4 years NCB.
A:

I've got my Mk1 (not a GTI though) with Lancaster, limited miles, garaged on a classic policy and it was about £120 as I recall with mods declared. Maybe worth a try?
A:

Cheers mate, I'll look them up
A:

Try Footman James too, ive got mine with them.
A:

Ta
How much do you pay, if you don't mind me asking?
A:

£200 FC with £3000 agreed value, 3000 mile limit. Footman James are less mod friendly than Stu's insurance company though, but seem pretty good.
A:

That's very cheap, hopefully I should be looking at similar/less for my 8v, which is worth a lot less than yours
I wonder if they will be funny about the 'mods' on mine, GL bumpers and single light grille?
I'll give them a try, cheers
A:

£175 with Footman James, fully comp and limited to 3k miles
Luke, do you have to provide photo's etc? I only put my value at £750 as thats probably all it's worth. Or should I have put it higher?
Cheers

£200 TPF&T 3k miles with HIC on a '89 8v

Insure it for at least £1300. Insurers always dig their heels in about paying out the full amount in the event of any crash/damage. You will probably only get around £700 from them if you insure it for £1300, but thats what you want which saves the hassle of arguing the toss over money for another 3 months which is very very very stressful.
A:

Cheers, I ran the quote online so will re visit it and alter the value, see if it alters the premium any
A:

For an agreed value you need to provide photos. I also had to get a valuation form signed by someone official to say they thought it was worth that much.
Just mention that its got a few things done, but that they are original equipment manufacturer parts.
The good thing about insuring through Footman James is that you dont need to use any of your NCB on your policy, so for me its ideal only having a build up of NCB on 1 policy, instead of 2 if i was using someone like HIC.
A:

8v Gti on classic through HIC, 5000 miles, im 23 with 0 years NCB (all on another policy), cost me £300 if I remember.
A:

AON Private clients well worth a call. just renewed the much modded brm car and the 16v on combined mileage 7500 per annum, agreed values (took self declaration and some photos on revaluation of valver after refurb- needed a letter last year from the phirm re the brm car i seem to recall but that was easily sorted) and reasonable excesses for less than £500.
didnt have issue with the mods at all.
got a couple of lower premiums- r&h and footman james but other details and more form filling and hassle for £40 didnt seem worth the effort.
adverts in the glossy classic mags or just google them.
edit- worth pointing out that the scala is insured with brentacre and is the car that attracts the NCB. got an agreed value on that this year and a premium £135 LOWER than last year premium/this years initial renewal notice.
Also U have to be careful- dont allow your ncb to lapse due to going for 'classic' insurance. it disappears after two years. one broker this year advised me to chop and change from year to year from'normal' to 'classic' non ncb policy and back again to save money.
insurance.....at least living in london u know u have the satisfacton that all the darfur taxi ******s and other 'scroats' have of course paid their premiums........

think i shall have to try some of the companies mentioned above. Its annoying only being able to use your NCB on one car. im paying £400 on my 2.0l 16v with all mods declared agreed value etc an when tried getting a quote on a 2nd car, a standard (ish) 1.8 16v worth 300 ish i was quoted wait for it........................

£1300 on 3k limit on a classic car policy ??????????? with adrian flux that is
