A:
He's had that for sale for ages.
A:

Ditto
A:
the car has a proven track record.. as we know
Needs to be pedalled well to get it as fast as it was.
Drove it again couple of years ago, 2 up with new owner, who at the time was suffering comparitively poor lap times round combe. (think 1m28-1m30 laps in dry) - Well we did 1m22s 2 up which was the best I ever managed alone, so it still worked well.
(in)famous car.
A:
Thats a good price, the engine would easily cost that to build alone!

You’re not supposed to take the short cut across the infield though Bill
A:
why has this car been for sale for such a long time???
was thinking about having a look at it
A:
I know I have wondered this ?? it's a good car, but maybe people outside the vw scene think it's just too much money.

expect you could probably get even more of a bargain now as it's been for sale for so long!
A:
Nothing wrong with it at all AFAIK. Sometimes Jettas just don't command attention - anyone not knowing its history would ignore it.
Parts in there: Quaife (£600 new + fitting, say £900), 2ltr TB'd 16V, DTA (DTA & TB set up generally £2k new)... + wheels, seat, harness + G60 brakes + ARBs, suspension.
What with plans for next year's Track Day tour, this car deserves to be snapped up, a 6-pointer fitted, and to be got out there amongst the rest of us...
A:
im poping round to have a look on tuesday will let you guys know how i get on
A:
how did it go
A:
hi there just got back back from bristol and the badger5 jetta has a new home, I went down with dave turner from ATMR to give the it the once over, everything checked out ok no probs, the lump sounded sweet!! which is the main reason for purchasing the car. i left a deposit and picking it up on saturday.
A:
Good stuff - back in the track fold. Plans for it Mike? What with the Mk1...
A:
Excellent news.
A:
the lumps gotta go in the mk1!!
A:
i woke up this morning with a smile on my face! another vw to play with ive got 3 now madness.
its also quite funny as i live about a mile away from bill so the cars on local turf again
In the end i picked up the car for a very reasonable price a lot less than it was advertised for, an absolute bargin i say!.
First plans will be to make a set of perspex windows to lower the weight a bit, i forgot how big and heavy the jetta is. then stip the interior, loose a bit more weight from the inside of the doors and any other places i can find! a bit of a diet. does anyone know the standard weight of a jetta and difference between it and the mk2 golf?
ive also got a spare bucket seat knocking round at home so that will go in to replace the old red one and im thinking about a 6 point cage for it, to improve the handling as the shells on 170k now. i havent driven it properly yet but dave, bill and chris have sugested this would help tighten things up a bit.
im hoping to do a few track days in the new year with it ,hopfully be on tour with the club gti clan
chris. the mk1's having the engine out in the next few weeks when i finish moving house and its off to either the roll centre or custom cages for a multi point. then some carbon bodywork and a set of kw's. im half way through stiping down a 6a 2lt 16v lump for the mk1 plans were for a 2.1 16v, high comp pistons etc. there was talk last night of the jetta lump finding its way into the mk1 at some date but who knows, theres still along way to go with that car its never ending
A:
I will post some pics when i get the car back home on saturday
A:
Nice
Now moved to members motors...
A:
Sounds like you have a good few options open to you mate
Congrats on gettng your hands on a mini-legend of a car too.
A:
Wouldn't the jetta be more evenly balanced what with that bit of extra weight hanging out over the back end?
A:
from what i remember reading the jetta only weighs 20kg more than a golf. they defo handle better because of the stiffer shell. i had both golf and jetta 16v`s, funnily enough both in monza blue, and if i bought another mk2 it`d be a jetta.
A:
they have that rigid area behind the rear seat
