golf 130 vs 150 vs anni

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

hey, been a while since i was last on here
for a short while i was over to the dark side of honda
anyways - im still looking for a new car and had my heart set on an anniversary
its seems now that insurance is hitting me harder than i expected
i can still insure an anniversary but is still quite expensive
therefore im looking at other golf derivatives...
looking at the 130bhp and 150bhp derv's
what the best model to go for? GT TDI? what options are available with each model? eg leather, heated sets, air con, TC, cd changer etc...
is it better/cheaper to get a 130 then remap it to 150+ or just spend the extra on a 150 and remap that?
what has been done to the 1.9tdi engine to get the extra 20bhp - just a map??
i would like to know everything about each model available in both cars
or should i just fork out the money for the anniversary because if i got a 130 or standard 150 id spend probably the same money doing it up at the price of an anniversary
opinions welcome...thanks :D
A:

The 150 has gti spec trim - thats prob the main difference, and of course the anni has the anni spec/trim.
I personally think the 130 is better value for money, esp if youre going to remap.
The 150 has different intercooler and injectors(iirc), Monty II alloys, sports suspension, a central rear headrest and 3 point belt and removable "wood" trim.
Ask yourself....how much can you afford?
A:

thanks seraph - your a man with usefull knowledge! :D
i can afford the anni so the other 2 wouldnt be a problem
i would probably change the suspension and wheels on either the 130 or 150, if i went for the 130 id probably get the forge FMIC aswell as a remap so there is probably no point in getting a 150 and im sure if there is something i like about the 150 i can get it from a scrapper or the likes
therefore i should go for a 130bhp? but what derivative? TDI OR GTTDI? what are the main differences?
A:

Theres alot of myth concerning badging and derivitives.
There is, in esscence, only one 130pd. It will prob be on the log book as gt-tdi. The 150 will prob be down as gti.
Typically, the engine code will be ASZ.
As said, theres little cosmetic difference between 150 and 130 and what you save on the 150 will pay for a remap/fmic/wheels ect.
The wheels is always a good change, but the suspension is almost mandatory. As mk2 owners love reiterating, the std mk4 handles like a whale!
So first up is a good sports kit - matched shox & springs, and then a rear arb.
A:

thanks seraph thats helped
if i have any more queries or thoughts on the matter ill ask again - should have just pm'd you lol
ideally id like an anni but if insurance goes tits up ill happily settle for a 130!
A:

remember your insurance will go up stacks if you do anything to it, so get a quote for the mods first
A:

my insurance covers me no problem on OEM modifications - eg r32 kit, 18s etc... so that isnt a problem
hence another reason to go for the anniversary i guess
A:

I've got a std 130 GTTDI, totally nice motor to drive, bit slower than my mk 2 TDI, but the six speed box makes up for it

the only difference between the 130 & 150 engine wise is the 150 has a front mount intercooler & different map to suit
hence a 130 + FMIC + remap will hit closer 180BHP!!!
A:

sweet lad thanks - slower than your mk2?? they were a 1.6TD with 90hp no?
another question i have about the 130's....
what interior options can you get? can you get leather? sports seats? trim? (id probably buy R32/anni trim if i wasnt happy with it)
my mate has a TDI 130 and the interior is a real basstard to clean!
oh and another thing which i fogot to mention was that my dad has an 04 A3 tdi 2.0 140bhp sport in blue - lovely car and ive driven it a few times and im well impressed - it could also be on the cards as he mentioned he might sell it to me
im sure he will not take the **** - the car is worth £14k and im sure he would sell it for around £8.5/9 to me - what are you opinions? its low mileage, hardly used by my dad etc...
A:

Crispys mk2 has a pd engine, so assume its pretty quick!
As for interiors i believe the velour is std, but think cream leather is an option. Crispy prob sees more of these than me, he'd know.
Don't forget, as your not buying from new, you may spend ages finding a car with 'your' spec.
Personally, id snap up that a3 with hesitation, but think about maybe higher running costs?
A:

without hesitation you mean? :S
do you not like the A3?
and running costs do you mean maintenance? fuel? tax? etc...
its grp11 insurance - 2 less than the 130pd and 4 less than the anni
A:

sorry, i meant withOUT hesitation!! Definately, marvellous car.
Running costs in terms of poss: insurance, servicing ect...but sounds gd at 11.
A:

the car is sound as a pound and i love it - id try change a couple of things on it - eg interior trim, rims, hopefully try get hold of an audi sport kit but at £1000 new from audi thats going to hurt a bit!
still has warrenty under mid next year
do you know if the new RS4 rims are 18" or 19"??
thanks again seraph
A:

New Rs4 rims are 19", but old ones 18", the cheaper option. Havnt seen new rs4 reps yet, but cant be long im sure.
A:

there are replicas of the new rs4 wheels on for £549 with tyres
A:

sweet lad thanks - slower than your mk2?? they were a 1.6TD with 90hp no?

1600 diesels where more like 75!

not a PD in the MK2 but the last of the VEP (variable electronic pumps) out of mk 4 GTTDI, last before offering a PD option
it's easier to tune than a PD, without a remap I'm running about 145 BHP@flywheel via the dyno in my right foot up from the original 110, with room for slight improvement
135 other week at awsome GTI with leaking boost & pump timing out ( due to new injectors being used!)

go for the best car you can, not much goes wrong with them
A:

there are replicas of the new rs4 wheels on for £549 with tyres
i saw that the other day - are they 19s? or 18s?
thanks guys! :D
A:

^ At that price theyre without doubt 18s
19s ARE available too, but expect to pay £900ish
A:

dont think id fancy 19s anyway - i was thinking about it over lunch lol
do the a3's have the same handling problems as the mk4 golfs?
will they respond much better to antiroll bars and some lowering? (i would def lower it anyway)
A:

iv only owned an s3, so i dont know how reg a3 handle ect
But as the mk4 responds well, its poss the a3 may too.
As for 19s, always think about affording replacement tyres too!
A:

true - there are brand new 17" tyres on it at the minute so id keep them on for the winter and then change in the spring time (thats if i get the car lol)
well im sure an anti roll bar will help out with the handling anyway - does it make the ride much different though? is it harder? bouncier?
seraph = did you have your s3 lowered at all? what company suits Audi best for lowering?
A:

An ARB(rear) on the mk4 is a god send. It stops that fat rear end wobbling all over the place. An arb or uprated arb can only be an inprovement - but get it approved from a venor who knows what their selling you.
As for the s3, it practically bankrupted me!, so mods were a no no at that time. As for audi parts, vagparts or bigboystoys seem fairly good.
A:

now, do you prefer the sport front bumper or sport back front bumper?
sport back:
sport:
^^^ that one is exactly the same as my dads but in the pearl blue colour
A:

sport gets my vote.
personally not too keen on the large grill on the sport back.
A:

agree, the sportback grill makes me think a6/a8!
