A&Q about 350Z
Q:
In you lots opinion, which golf handles the best then? mk1,2,3,4 or 5?
Please also post which ones you have driven out of the 5 marks.
Discuss.
A:
I voted for the Mk1, I have driven every golf and just felt that the little mk1 was the most chuckable and enjoyable out of the 5. Mk2 was a close second but when pushing hard the extra weight could be felt, however this also made the mk2 feel more solid and less twitchy imo.
However, the Mk5 feels more secure, but I'm not that old yet
A:
i own 2 mk1's and had 3 mk2's
mk1 wins as it seems more willing and throwable imo
test drivin mk3, 4 and 5 but still think oldies are the best ........ so far
A:
tbh although the mk1 is lighter than the mk2 it has some really bad bumpsteer. i`ve driven mk1 and 2 properly in anger, and from abusing them on my private test track ( which happens to encompass most of bedfordshire), i found the mk2 better, definately less twitchy than the mk1
A:
Driven mk 1 + 2 and although the Mk1 would be faster round the bends, it was defo more twitchy and tail happy in the wet. That said it was way more fun and was a more ballenced car,(4 wheel drifts in it were nice and controlled in the dry) my mk2 is well nose heavy in comparison, even with eibach arb's and toyo 205s.
I miss my mk1 and would love another with the valver engine in it.
A:
Havent driven mk5. But out of other mk's has to be mk1. Although the mk2 is also good.
A:
Only driven mk2 and 3... Really not much to compare tbh. Tank or car... Hmmm

A:
I've only driven my mk2's and a mk4 150pd So I was bound to say mk2 cos it's the one I like best

Yup, loads of flab and a bendy rear beam.
A:
Voted for the Mk1 but that`s down to my own modified example. As a standard car my old (85k) Mk2 valver ranks the best followed by an R32 (16k) and my daughter`s soft (45k) Mk4 2.0 GTI
A:
only ever driven my mk2 so i gotta say mk2...
i imagine the mk1 would be better in a modified form but standard i would hazard a guess at either mk2 or mk5.
A:
Driven a mk1 owned a mk2, and currently own a mk3.
The mk1 was fun and chuckable around corners, but for me the mk2 was the king of the road!
Nothing i could do to it would upset it (60mph around roundabouts etc) and i just stuck there!
I havent had the pleasure of caining the mk3 yet, but already it feels more wallowy than the mk2!
*Edit*
Just remembered i haver driven a mk 5 the day it came out (test drive was booked for ages before!!)
Handled well, but couldnt really thrap it because i had the sales rep sitting next to me!)
A:
the suspension geometry of a mk2 ( and mk3 for that matter) is a superior design to the mk1. and obviously the mk2 weighs less than the mk3.
A:
I'd have to say a mk2, but I must admit that driving a mk1 is still something I have to look forward to.
Have driven 2,3,4. Mk2s handling is superior out of the 3 imo. The mk3 was a bit bland in comparrison to the mk2 and the mk4 was just too heavy/bulky for my liking.
A:
Only driven (and owned) mk2, 3, 4 (R32).
Mk2 felt the liveliest but was let down by dodgy damping - Nicely chuckable though but poor brakes.
Mk3 was grippier but softer so needed more anticipation in the twisties to keep the chassis ready for the next bend.
Mk4 R32 was very nicely damped, had the correct firmness and grip like a loon with almost no oversteer but you could feel it's bulk.
Mk4 150PD (just test drove) was one of the worst handling cars I've ever driven - Slushier than mud, understeered everywhere, and I had no idea what the tyres were doing with dreadful steering "feel"
Can imagine an "updated" mk1 or 2 would be the best overall but yet to drive a mk5.

LMFAO

The mk3 I used to own, really was like driving a tank...
I allways felt they where to big and heavy, and with lowering springs on standard shocks it used to bounce round corners.
Still felt a solid car though, Just handled like a boat with wheels...
A:
I have owned two mk2 golf gti 8v's one was an early standard model with no pas,the second lowered with pas. I would say the pas car was the best handling one, more willing quicker turn in and hold its line better then the early car. also driven mks 1,3,4 and 5 mk1 is the best of these really nimble, alive steering with good feedback, but the mk2 feels more solid not as tail happy, which is good because I've got crap reactions
