Three dislocated joints, and two fractures!

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Sunday I was tweaking on the Z when I saw my neighbors chasing one of their horses. I was helping them catch it and somehow got my right hand caught in the lead rope. Fractured and dislocated my pointy finger, Dislocated Mr. Birdy (ER Doc said it was one of the worst he had seen. My fingernail was pointed upside down and to the right when I looked.), Right ring finger fractured and dislocated also. I had left the Z running the whole time, so everyone liiked at me funny when I wanted to turn it off before we left for the ER. The doc got all of them reset and put it in a wrap. So, I am out of commission for 3-6 weeks. 5 cc of morphine and vicadin are now my friends.

that is some mean stuff. It will make you very dizzy and disoriented at times, especially on an empty stomach. Does take care of the pain though.....a little toooo good, if you know what I mean!
Glad you are alright and I understand about the horses. We own 3 and they can dish out serious injury if spooked or startled. Most of the time the rider, or capturer in this case, wind up getting hurt.
If you like baseball, look on the bright side. When I was playing in college I had the same two fingers messed up on my throwing hand by a wild pitch. Before that, I could not throw a decent curve or slider. After my fingers healed up, they were slighty bent inward and downward. Amazingly, I could now throw a nasty curve ball that broke about a foot and half over the plate. hehehehehe
Take care and good luck with the Z project.

..ummm this is a reversal...maybe your first and last time getting owned
by a mustang!....no time to kid tho'...sounds serious. Stay low for awhile
if you can and best of luck on a quick heal! I suppose writing/signing your name isn't fun either!
GT McCann: .....back when pitchers actually batted too! oh, I guess that was college, but nonetheless....I still think pitchers should be hitting!

Yeah, pain is not too bad, only took 4 advil today. I even wandered around outside for a while today. Stinks to have no right hand for that long.

Ouch. That'll teach you to chase after runaway horses. My wife and i met on horse back and after we married, she retaught me all my horse ground skills because she knew I'd do something like what you did. Best to let a horse run till it's tired and then settle down, then lead back with sweet feed or calmly go get it. NEVER try and grab a lead rope, she taught me -- as she put it, you'll lose every time when it comes to the physics of a 170lb dude and a 1100 lb horse.
Hope your recovery goes by quick and you don't get too hooked on the vicodan. Cheers,

Large animals are best left to the experts, I will try to guide my wife's Tennesee Walker (1200 lbs) back to the barn, but WILL NOT chase him or try to muscle him.

At least your not that horse that broke his back leg in that Derby the other day. He's survived the surgery but still may or may not recover and have to be put down. At least your not wearing his hooves.

Ouch! Very sorry to hear this.
I have enough trouble trying to work on cars - cuts, sccrapes and bruizes -
so working with one horse that can bite or kick - no thank you.
So now to be funny -
isn't there a lesson here - like not working on an engine that's running?

the derby horse is going to spend the rest of his life being pampered and used for stud fees. Wait, that's not such a bad life after all... sex, food, sex, run around for a while, sex, naptime, sex, pampered, sex, bathed, sex. Doesn't sound too bad after all.
I know about pain... 2 back surgeries, shot nail through index finger, Hydrocodone and percocet work well. Make you forget things while on them, though. Work well on pain. Morphene no fun but works.
Good luck,you'll need it.

Man that sucks but be glad it wasn't wosrse!
We had a local 17 yr old girl get kicked in the face by her horse. Caved in her face and she is looking at months of reconstructive surgery!
