A&Q about 350Z
Q:
ive gotten this series of questions lately... and i love making this reply. it goes like this.
"hey nice Z!" (random person)
"...thanks." (me)
"is that an 83'??" (random person)
"..its a 79...[sheesh]" (me)
"... hey.. is that thing a turbo?"
...my favorite thing to say....
"...they didnt make turbos in 79'."
then they continue
"thats too bad...[revs engine]" (random person)
"...oh well...[shrugs]" (me)
and then all they hear is shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh from the turbo, and all they see is my taillights!
but hey, they didnt make turbos in 79'.
lol.. i just felt like startin some convo.

Then they are probably left thinking that Z owners don't know what a turbo is.
I didn't have a Clue??!!! Until I found Blue...
Blue's Z car tips -

Yea, sorry Zleep. Your story doesn't make a whole lotta sense - it sounds like you're expecting this random person to know more about Zcars and what years were what than even your average zcar owner would know.
At least he knew the right body style year. And it sounds like he recognized that your car was a turbo. Actually this guy sounds pretty smart...

Boardkid, clearly EVERYONE out there should know what Z models had what options....If someone does not know their Z facts they should just walk around with "dumbass" stamped on their forehead.
j/k.
My 81 didn't come with a 5 speed, but I don't go around setting the facts straight..
A:

when im going down the road.. all you can hear is the turbo... so its kinda like a rethorical type thing...
it was just good for an early morning laugh... i mean i dont even know how many times in a day i get that question... so i play dumb with it, and then laugh as it spools...
its all in good fun!

its just denying what you have... for the fun of it. im always smirking when i say that... its fun sometimes.
and i love it when honda guys believe it, and think "yo... i got dis"
and then you can just play with the gas pedal while they punch it, and pretend to struggle, and then just pull away like nothing... its good humor kinda stuff.

I gotcha, yea it's fun to play with people. Frank, if I ever supercharge my car, I'm gonna call it a 280Zsc or 280ZSC or 280Z-SC or something like that. Then I'll find a label that says SC and add it to the 280Z label on the tailgate. Then at least some people will know what it it.
