A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I was reading one of your posts in the 70-83 tech forum and I noticed you refer to naval jelly. I did a little researching and can't find much about how it operates. How well does that stuff work?

I have used it and it works very well. What rust are you trying to remove and from what?

I have rust on the rear quarters at the wheel wells and a small amount in the spare tire well. The rest of the rust holes i'll have to weld at some point.

.......it has to be somebody else's naval......
Actually collecting enough of the stuff requires going several months without bathing, and alas, you lose most of your friends.
The biggest problem encountered is separating it from the belly-button lint.....and the collecting process is somewhat of a mistery.
I mean, using a normal spoon is kinda tricky, and if you've tried something like a Q-tip, you find that quite a bit of the collection is soaked up by the tip, hence, the time taken to get enough to spread all over your fender only extends out to a longer time.
Two Cautions - You can't rub your naval directly on to the rusty area ......a brown rust stain will collect on your belly, and transfer to your clothes in the vicinity. Most people *mistakenly* take this for you having bad training in the toilet habits, and will be suggesting you are using the wrong hand to "wipe".
You will also find packages of Depends on your doorstep.....left during the night.
The second is the dreaded RedNavbrnrst-titus disease, although very rare, requires a RedNavbrnrst - ecktomy.! ! Very Painful ! ! ! I'm not sure of the exact sequence, but has something to do with sucking at the base of the appurtenance with a long rod inserted in some unmentionable opening in the rear of your butt-tocks (got that from Tom Hanks) area and leaving it for a few days.
So, be aware ! ! ! Lastly, when you do get enough, (of someone else's) brushing it on the aformentioned rust area promotes a chemical reaction, and although it won't look like new metal when your finished, it does do a decent job !!
One other serious caution for the bar hopping crowd........
"Can I get a sample of your Naval Jelly?" is NOT -- repeat NOT
a good pickup line.......trust me on this one .......................

You don't drink cola, do you?
(Hint - Check the ingredients of both.)
Rusty but running.
Polish cell phone and two tubes of Aluma-seal.
And, now we are historic.

Be very careful using Naval Jelly (NO JOKE) -
it is very caustic, use in a well ventalated area - and/or/with face mask.
It works well on rust but will eat paint to and other finishes. I used it on light rust on a gunn barrel it took the rust and the blueing right off.
There is another product for guns that works really well on rust but doesn't hurt blueing and maybe better - RB-17.
If you're covering a large area and no worries about paint - the naval jelly may be cheaper - just be careful.
