It Runs...Thanks Rayaap!

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Got the Bus Home from Ray's place last night around 12pm, after starting out at 5am, and doing "work" along the way to justify the costs of an 885.9 mile round trip in the work truck.
Today, went out with fresh gas, put a battery in the Bus, put a Group 26 Battery in it, changed the oil, and tried to start it---no fire.
Went to check the dizzy, THING HAD THE POINTS ASSEMBLY REMOVED!
Pulled old dizzy off my bud Wallace's old "core" engine from his wifes 69 Beetle (stored for over 10 years in a shed out back by now), stuck it in there, and tried again...
VROOM! IT RUNS!
Have a problem with the carburettor idle cutoff valve, will deal with that later---when the boy is around to play "cranker"! LOL
But I DOUBT it's a stock 1600 DP. Thing has a LOT of zing---it's either a lightened flywheel, or at minimum 1776 or 1835CC with a cam. Thing with a single carb pulls harder than my bus with a 1641 and Engle 110 Cam and Dual Dellortos. Bodes well for using it as the wife's "daily driver" to give here "hay bale compatibility" with more than 25mpg....
Anyway, took some "color back" to the one side, and hell it's shiny! And it's not green and white, either, the "white" was actually CREAM! Cool looking bus. I gotta post some photos when I get the things loaded on the computer.
I got another BUS!
Thanks Ray! Back in a couple of weeks for the Corvair 700, and the 77 Bus.

Good luck with your bus. What year is it? I worked on Bettle's & Buses in the mid 70's in a garage in North Weymouth Ma. I hated every time I had to work on those buses! Think I still have a bump on my head from working on the engines in those! VW should have made an access panel above the engine area you could have removed to work on the engine. I have an old original carb for a duel port VW engine that's been sitting on my shelf collecting dust in my shop if you need one? Pay the shipping costs and it's yours. Those buses had problems with the steering box rusting off the front axle beam so you should inspect it to be sure your's is okay.
Best of luck...

scan it in... that's a good laugh
Also the BFG ATs are prety funny as well. You should name it Monster Bus or somthing.
Also thanks for the scotch brite pad tip. It worked well and the engine is now installed in the '73. I'm getting ready to fire her up in the next few days for some tuning.
