I have a brand I got from Home depot. I can't remember the name. I think Frigidaire. Anyway, I used it in my paint booth and now my recording studio and it is still working great. It may be a GE but whichever the Home Depot sells. Paul

go with a Friedrich (or if you can find one, a Carrier). more expensive up front, but usually more economical in the long run. they have been making them forever and they last forever to boot. i would actually advise against the ones at home depot or lowes. go to a shop that specializes in a/c's.

decent, but again, think about how many different appliances that kenmore makes. friedrich and carrier specialize in a/c's. i have done work on alot of old window units, and the number of friedrich units built in the 70's that are still in service now is astonishing. also, many apartments and hospitals that use window units for each room use the carrier units. best bang for the buck and if you ever need to service the unit you will see the difference that engineering makes- as opposed to junking the whole unit and buying another one if the motor or compressor go out.

We have a decent size Friedrich at our lakehouse and it still works GREAT!! No telling how old it is, but it's OLD. It only stopped working one time a few years ago when it got all jammed up with dirt dobber nests.

That picture is DAM funny!
go with Carrier. Buddy of mine used to do HVAC and he swears by em. That was the only one his company would install...well that, and a few Trane's.
They are a bit on the high-end from a cost perspective but if you amortize the cost over the life of the product I guarantee you it is cheaper year over year than a low end el cheapo machine

Fedders-been around since i was a kid(60s).I just bought one a month ago.
Carrier & trane don't make residential window units.

Kenmore is just Sears' House brand name - if you look into it you will find name brand big companies are making the units whether A/C or stove or refrigerator.
This is big old time marketing. Sears can buy huge volumes for all it's stores and make a profit on what someone else makes.
See who builds things for Radio Shack and others with "House" brand names.
Just like perscription drugs - you can get the exact same thing for cheaper.
Your're not paying for multimillion dollar ad campains to push a "Name" brand.
In handguns - if you want old time Smith & Wesson quality in the same type of gun - buy Taurus.
As in cars now - many "Brand" names aren't really manufactured by that Brand.
