mine is the carpetted type, it came with the car. no one seems to like it but i actually like it better with it on. hides the deep gashes too

How badly cracked is the dash? How many cracks?
You can try a filler, like the canned foam that hardens - cut off - sand down and then paint over to match the dash.
There is an article or search here on ZCar that explains it better than I.
I'm wondering if bathroom caulking would work?
