A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Yes, I have a nice Jeep Cherokee, but I want to get a very small commuter car to run around in. I was thinking of one of the following:
1. Ford Festiva / Aspire
2. Geo Metro hatchback
3. Suzuki Swift
Or any others in that category. Here are the requirements:
4 cyl engine or smaller
two door hatchback body style
speedometer, gas guage, radio
all maual door locks, windows, etc.
Must be very cheap, and reliable.
What would be the best one to get?

Yeah, I love the Civics, but too many kids want them and so they are still high in price even when used. I want a car no one wants. How about the New hyundai Accent HB's are they any good? Also, what about the build quality in the newer hYundais?
A:
I want a true compact econo box with NO options, i.e. 13" wheels, no powers, no luxury, etc. Just 4 wheels, a motor and thats it.
No frills, no luxury, no options.

You get what you pay for.
The newer hyundai's are decent cars. I'd say there are on par with suzuki, isuzu, and many domestic models. An old accord 90-93 or old civic is still your best bet, the civics aren't cheap because they are the lightest made that you can still swap all B series engines into.

Holiday it sounds like you're after what I was after and I did months of searching and research. The only thing you make no mention is if good mileage is one of your top priorities as it was for me.
If that is important to you then I'd highly recommend (like LA 260Z) you getting a 1988 - 1991 Honda CRX HF. They were rated higher MPG than a current brand new Honda Civic Hybric.
It definately meets your requirements of:
4 cyl engine or smaller---Check (1.5L 4 Cylinder)
two door hatchback body style---Check (2 door only hatch with TONS of rear cargo space)
speedometer, gas guage, radio---Check
all maual door locks, windows, etc.---Check
Must be very cheap, and reliable.---Check, it's a Honda for crying out loud!
My search took me over 3 months and lots of emails and trips to look at ones but I finally found what I was looking for locally too!
The only thing you really have to look out for is since the HF (High Fuel) trim is the lightest CRX what others typically do is buy them just for the shell and swap out the otherwise underpowered 1.5L 62 hp engine in a stock CRX HF. I ran across this so many time where I'd find a HF only to find it had a CRX DX or Si or any other Honda engine slapped in there.
So if you are interested in these just make sure it is a stock HF engine and tranny otherwise you won't get the great mileage.
Check it out:
Here's my MPG beast!
I bought this 1991 Honda CRX HF three months ago.
It's EPA rated for 49/51 and I've consistenly have gotten 50mpg real world driving mileage out of it.
Simple I get 350+ miles out of its 7 gallon gas tank...yes it has a 7 gallon gas tank!!!! :)
Here are a few before pictures (before I bought it)...look at that poor dull paint!
Now look at it, after a wash/rubbing compound/wax/polish step procedure!
Here is what I want it to look like after I get it painted (I already have these wheels ready to rock it too!
And here are my other poor MPG cars! :P

Ever heard of a 3 cylinder pushing 300 HP to the wheels...I have and it still gets 30 plus MPG. Go to teamswift.com there you will find EVERY performance option for geos, swifts, holdens, pontiac fireflys, and the chevy sprint. You can make these cars reasonably quick for cheap and the forums there are dead helpful. Personaly I would get a swift but make sure that its the GTi verison, its a much better driver as far as power and luxury goes. If your looking for a stripped down econo-box, I would say the Chevy Sprint or early Geo Metro are going to be your best bets. You can buy them and hotrod the hell out of them and surprise people at stop lights when you blow them away. Or drive them them as stock and not have any fun :( Im not saying that any geo is going to be a 10 second ride, but it will surprise you what you can make a little 3 cylinder do. I hope this helps; Dont forget to check out teamswift.com

LOL...Datto you cruise a lifted sport car! LOL...what a joke!
So getting a car that gets 50+ mpg is funny? Hmm let me see I only use it for commuting from the Bay Area to Vandeberg Air Force Base for work which has me putting on about 1000 miles on it during my 10 days here, somehow putting the miles on my CRX rather than on my Z or 510 is funny? I don't see the humor in that, not to mention the $$$$ I save on gas.
You're an idiot Datto, plain and simple!

I did consider them but the best mileage the Sentras got was 29city/36hwy, so to me that wasn't good enough, but I do like the boxy Sentras (especially the SE-R) because they to me are a modern interpretation of a Datsun 510, which I love!
Did I mention Datto is an immature kid? Just wanted to be clear of that. :)
