My weekend project... *pics*

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

So i finally got around to shaving the rear end this weekend.
Decided to go with fiberglass behind the holes.
For the record, black is a bad color choice for bondo work...
Filled in the holes with this fun stuff.
First layer/attempt
Second layer and dry....gettin there.
Sanded it then smoothed it out with this.
All sanded and smooth :D
Still need to add another thin layer cause of some lows i can still feel. But i'm pretty pleased with how its turned out so far.
Anyway, this whole thing is a learning experience right? haha.
If any of you body shop guys are just cringing in your seat right now, please let me know what i should have done right. thanks!

yeah that looks great, I keep telling my friends that I'm not trying to make a show car, I just dont want any holes big enough to throw a cat out of. I just started pulling off my bumpers too and I will probably go the same route as you.

If you havent yet you will want to switch to a lite body filler, or body putty now. That fiberglass reinforces stuff will not work as a finishing product, it leaves TONS of air holes one can see until in primer if your lucky, if not once finished.
Buy light body filler, or body putty and get 150 grit paper and a long block, keep changing directions and sand sand sand. Then if your not worried about show quality just some decent rattle can primer to seal it until paint finaly primer wet sanding and paint!

Wow nevermind i cant read, i completely looked over your second part, evermind the filler part, but do make sure to get primer on it so its not to attract moisture. Body filler realy holds it in and will rust out sooner than later....

Looks Good,
I just closed off the bumper shock holes on mine. I liked the 4 holes left there in the valance. To me it gives the back end a little texture, I didn't like the totally smoothed over look.

only reason i didn't weld it is cause i don't have the experience, and i knew i would screw something up. i think this should work just as well with the fiberglass tho...as long as nothing bigger than a fly hits it ;P

NO tell me you didn't just fill those big holes with glass.
This whole world smells bad, I'd buy another if I had
back what I paid for another mother@#$%@# in a motorcade

A:

yea....i think the fiberglass reinforced stuff is a little bit better than the filler but yea...i'm startin to realize my mistakes from the guys over at hybridz.
O well. I'm gonna try and do what i can at this point to re-skim it and seal it off. Maybe rattlecan, maybe just paint on fiberglass resin.
its a learning experience right? lol....well atleast i'll know what to do in a year when i have to re do it all :P

Primer is NOT a sealer , unless it is 2 part epoxy primer-sealer. Moisture will and does go through regular primer.

I was JUST suggesting to use primer, while still doing the body work, leaving it for no more than a few days at a time.
Epoxy primer should be used once the body work is completely done and just waiting for paint.
