A&Q about 350Z
Q:
i bought a cheap set of tripple solex's with intent to rebuild and then sell them, but i wanted to throw them on my 70 just for fun. So i took off the su's and tried to slap on the tripples. NO, the damn aftermarket header is in the way. it hits the intake mainfold. i thought i was going to have fun tooling around with tripples for a month or so. i guess i will grind down the bad part and do it anyway dammit. damn crappy headers.
sorry just had to vent.

It is very standard procedure to have to fit each aftermarket manifold to different header, so dont feel bad.

"It is very standard procedure to have to fit each aftermarket manifold to different header,"
When Dealing with Cheap American produced parts...
The stuff made for the JDM fit. Like stock parts. Everytime.
They simply had far superior quality control and engineering that went into this stuff, and it fit correctly out of the box. No "dimpling" of headers to "fit", nuts on headers that were accessible just like the stock cast manifold, flanges ground to seal and of the correct thickness so you don't "need to make stepped washers"....
Fitting stuff to a car every time is a peculiarly American trait in the aftermarket. Build it cheap and let someone else make it fit---just like the same auto industry builds their cars....

my twm manifold is very close to my header, had to put a few small dents in some of the primaries to clear the flange on the carb end. next time i have it apart i think i will take it and have the head side milled a few degrees from the angle its at now to raise the carbs just a bit, i dont think the small increase in angle will effect the carbs..... but i could be wrong

Tony, each manufacture can't take into account what other aftermarket products, or non-original parts might be bolted up to a car. If I could predict what another company would make 10 years from now, or what parts someone might bolt up to a car, I'd be rich. For all we know, the header he has wasn't designed to work with the triples (obviously it wasn't). I'm not trying to bash here, or maybe I've mis-understood what you've said, but thats my take on it.
That said, I know there are quite a bit of "poor-fit" parts floating around in the aftermarket. Most of the time, you get what you pay for when talking about quality, tho there are good deals to be had here and there.

I meant exactly what I said: The Japanese stuff FITS!
The ONLY time I have had ANY problems with parts is when using cheap=assed American made parts. Headers produced here in the USA universally suck.
I have bolted my JDM intakes and headers on so many different cars it's not funny!
Never a problem.
Ever.
In over 20 years.
Perhaps that's why I don't SELL them to people, and hoard them when I get access to them. I'll sell off cheap American Built Crap all day long to idiots that have the patience and time to "make a part fit".
When I buy something, I expect it to work. They have had more than enough time to address fittment. If Greddy had a header that fit flawlessly in 1977, I find it hard to understand why such crappy flame-cut junk still floats around there, much less gets SOLD AS NEW! (By fit flawlessly, I mean a flange that fit like the stock cast iron manifold, with equal more than adequate bolt clearance!)
We are talking Intake and Exhaust manifolds here, specifically. And it's a very simple matter of copying the OEM parts flanges. It's not rocket science.
If you are filing (or are required to file) something, one of the two components was MADE IMPROPERLY---it really IS that simple!

TonyD, I think the issue is due to the **** up patent laws in the states.

"Headers produced here in the USA universally suck."
As a blanket statement I will have to totally disagree. I have a set of US made Hookers hanging on my garage wall that saw many many years of street strip use. A dip in Caustic Soda and some header paint and they are like new. And fit? There is no way that a set of headers could fit, or seal any better. Add the disclaimer next time.
You want suck, try a set of Comp Hookers produced in Mexico.
