Insult to Injury ;-\ Major Theft in Seattle area

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

So as some of you know I had a slight fender bender with my Z last month...rrrrrrr. Anyway I was taking a different course of "look" with my Z. So I have been moving parts and what not back and forth to my storage unit. Aparently some person\s have been watching my storage and broke in this weekend sometime. Only my Datsun parts were stolen. I had a crap load of new parts and a complete turbo setup ready to drop in!! I actualy broke down and cried at this point. I have taken more than a year to collect these parts and build my turbo. The storage insurance company will only cover 2k. It's a very strange break in. 4 units were cut into but mine was the only unit to be gone through. Only the Datsun parts were taken. I have other engines in storage as well but those were "looked over". Also no alarms were tripped. I can see alarm pickups right on my door!! WTFFFF I must have the most %^*& luck running. It's a good thing I dont work for the postal service. If any person\s in the greater Seattle area come across any hinky or too good to be true deals for parts let me know!!REWARD!!!!
Stolen items:

thats gotta suck like no other im sorry ill keep an eye on ebay lol

If no alarms were tripped file a suit (or pretend to) against the storage company for neglegence resulting in property theft. Unless you have signed some kind of waiver or contract that is.
Then from there give them the total cost (assuming you have recipts/ebay info, etc.) and tell them or the insurance to pay up.
I would personally go a bit farther and "get" employment records for the company and pay a visit to each of the employees and check out backyards and garages.

A:

Damn dude.
Yeah watch the internet and such. Some of the parts are specialized and not everyone can afford them.
SPEED IS MY DRUG OF CHOICE..LET ME DRIVE!

A:

Um, yeah, why wasn't this either insured or the storage company's fault? Did they take reasonable precautions to protect against theft?

Are you anywhere near 1 Fast Z?
Not trying to be funny - but how is it two people in what? a day or two - that post here and are known forwpecific Z parts are ripped off.
I should practice what I preach - but I will preach anyway -
when I collected guns - a lot - I was cautious to the point of paranoia about who knew what I had.
I drilled it into Sons # 1 & 2 not to talk losely to their "friends" about what was in our house. But I have mentioned a bit often here about my former hobby.
The old saying: keep your enemies close and your friends closer - I'm afraid is sometimes too true. Who knows what you have specifically and where?
Sorry but in Security work somethings happen too often to be ignored:
80% of all retail loses are by employees - the bigger high ticket items by trusted employees who have access and know when and where to look and grab.
Locks only keep honest people out.
Some professionals can watch you and figure out what to take - but what I'm taking about here is a bit too specialized.
More stats: the average age of a burgler is 13 (hose and apartment break-ins) and early afternoon - just after school (hmm) and before most people get home from work.
Most break-ins occur around 1 mile of the burglars home.
Now to be funny:
"In God We Trust - all others pay cash"
I'm very sorry for your loss - but maybe this is food for thought and a way to pick up some clues to who might have done this.

I am sorry to hear about this. Did you get a police report? we had a storage facility that got broken into. They opened 17 units, no alarm went off. The only thing they took was a race motorcycle and parts.
They were caught after a second brake-in, 13 units this time. They were sloppy and left prints on the locks and several items. Also found, was their flashlight and blood. All matched.
Investigations did a really good job. It took about two months but we got them. Two Hispanic brothers, wanted also in Florida for burglary.
Sadly not all the parts were recovered.
Good luck to you.
I agree with erzelda. These people may be closer to you than you think. Be careful who you show your inventory to.

Get a police report, take pictures and document everything then file in Washington State Small Clams Court it cost $29 if I Rember correctly. If their chicken sheet security system didn’t work with the thieves maybe their contract won’t fly with the Judge.

you know you kick yourself when you leave something outside and it gets stolen.but when you lock it up in a supposedly safe place and it still gets stolen.thats just wrong! people just don't care about other peoples property.sorry for the loss hope it works out for you.

Pardon me for this wish, flame me if you like, but this is what would go through my head (probably watched too many movies!):
I hope I find these guys before the police. Then I hope that I happen to have a baseball bat or other blunt, swingable object.
People who steal REALLY piss me off. They aren't just ripping you off of your money, but all your hard work and your passion.
I would put pressure on the storage company. They should be liable for that stuff if your lock was on, which i am sure it was.

I have a police report. Thats the first thing I did. The lock was found cut. no prints. I'm so "noid" about who I tell where is what my girlfriend of 7 years had only been to the storage unit 1 time to move parts around. I have been trying to get a hold of the insurence company but no luck so far. I have probibly 50% of the receipts. Thank god most of these are for the pricy parts. Unfortunatly I don't have any of the block numbers(damn). I also have to go find another turbo motor and price it out, then give that information to the insurance company. Tommorrow I'm going to have a chat with the storage unit manager. I have the original insurance and storage contract info and need to start reading. I'm going off like a rabid pit bull in a chicken eating contest........

Sorry to hear that man but like er said look close to you in your circle of "freinds" first. Sad to say but that's where you'll probabley find the culprit.
