What do they think of us Z guys..

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I was thinking, what do the mustang, camaro, or other owners of legendary cars think of us; surely they must have respect for us Z'ers. We have legendary status too! I cant see... say, muscle car owners having direspect for our z's, we were the 1st sporty, good looking import to come from japan, by far we are no ordinary import. Anyone ever got any comments or been to a muscle car show in there z? what did they say? what were their comments? When my z all decked out iam go to those classic muscle car shows in my Z and find out, but what am i supposed to expect? more insults or more compliments............

Those guys are all much wealthier than us. Well a lot of them (there I go categorizing people). I would imagine some would respect us while others would sneer at us. Its just like the bikers. Some dont mind Japanese or other bikes...but some....well...you know...I think its just human nature. It would be a nice world if everyone would respect everybody else but that is just not the way it is.
Of course what about the Ferrari, McClaren, Lambo crowd?...lol...I would imagine they are the same way...what we need is for Jay Leno to own a Z...now that would be cool....

Well some times but if you look on ebay you will find OEM fenders for 2 grand a piece. A NOS windshield wiper motor for a 69 Camaro just went for 1500.00. Just a basket case rust bucket 69 Camaro will bring 5 to 8 grand.

Z's arent so much about money as they are about know-how. take for instance my turbo black pearl. z-$350, drivetrain swap from 81 n/a-$100, complete turbo setup-$150 4 piston brakes-$45. it just takes time, a strong understanding of what fits what and hours and hours of fishing through craigslist.

Edited! S30s are far cheaper to work on than muscle cars.

i can tell you that pretty much every muscle car around here has respect for my sons 240Z. they wont even mess with him, especially off the line. even my Z06 and Formula SD-455 has respect for his 240z. we never can decide what cars to take out we have in our collection.
he takes his 240z to the fri night muscle car get together and is welcome, but no other ricers or imports are.

People are people in just about any and every group you go to.
I've met guys on a gun range who wouldn't have given me the time of day anyother time, but were interested in one of my antique guns.
Sometimes they have only read about one of my collector guns. You should see their eyes light up when I let them shoot a gun they only thought they would see in a museum.
At the cruise nights I attend there are mostly muscle cars but others cars show up. Most folks are polite and show interest out of the field they collect.
Most can only afford or chose to own one collector car.
Some of us fools can't decide and go for the whole toy box.
Variety is the spice of life.
Be nice to everyone you meet - you never know where that great deal or hook-up is going to come from.
Yeah - there are jerks and snobs around everywhere - but you didn't want to know them anyway.

454 stroked to a 496 with pro top line heads pushing 740hp $4,500.. vrs. a 700hp for our cars that costs 6k.. so..how are muscle cars cheaper? ya some parts are expenisve like 1,500 for fenders but those fenders are rear as hell. a basket case rusted camero 5-8k? lmao!! my buddy his selling his bad ass 70 1/2 camero for 5k haha.

Upon inquiring if I could enter my ZX into a show- I was told to "get lost" by an old guy in a Hemi hat. His buddy (sporting an American flag babushka) told me I could come back if I put a blown 350 in it.
This was a car show in CT. I have very little respect for people who can sign a check and don't have grease under their nails.

You don't respect all Z'ers yourself, yet you're pondering what "owners of legendary cars think of us."
Wait a minute ... I just figured it out. The "us" to which you refer is reserved for owners of '70 - '73 240Zs.
"... us Z guys." That really is funny.

A:

All of the members on the Impreza website (www.clubwrx.net) that I belong to have mad respect for the Z. One of the members even told me that he has owned five in the past and listed them. I have no reason to not believe him.
Even though the 05 STi that I have now is nothing but a sure-grip road rocket, my 240 will always be my baby (even if it's still drive train-less at my uncle's).
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

A:

i dont mean that, oh wait a 350z owner knows what a 240z is!!? wow

its all in the time you spend searching for the right parts at a decent price. most of the items on camaros and firebirds were interchangeable. if you paid 1,500 for a wiper motor for a '69 camaro you just have to much money and not enough sense. a friend of my uncles put rear disc brakes on his '69 camaro that he pulled from a '96 caprice. time was spent getting everyting to fit properly but he only spent $150 vs. $800+ for an aftermarket setup.

you have 2 types of car lovers... the people that want to look at them and talk about them and compare specs and whatnot...
and the other type prefer to drive.
everyone knows a guy that has 2 show winning big block Chevelles that are kept in a climate controlled garage up on stands and covered up/the undercarriages detailed and pinstriped/numbers matching/doesnt see 3 miles of driving in a decade.you see the guy at a car show, you go up to him to talk cars and he finds out that you drive a riceburner and snubs you.
on the other end of the spectrum, you have the guy with the primered Chevelle made up of parts from 10 different cars(not all of them GM),caged, lowered, custom exhaust, homemade turbo kit using a turbo off of a Peterbuilt 379.he sees you at the autoparts store, looks at the Z and starts a conversation with you, sees the enthusiasm you have for the Z and invites you to hang out at his shop on the weekends, and even makes a custom exhaust for your Z.
I had a guy in a 60's Ferrari stop to talk to me about my car.and last week while in my gym parkinglot, a Viper owner(he owns 3 of them) comes up to talk to me about Z cars.
If all were equal, none would be strong.

For the most part high end cars are leased. I do legal research for a living (general legal process serving) & every high end Porsche, Mercedes or Ferrari I have searched through in the MTO data base has been leased.
This whole world smells bad, I'd buy another if I had
back what I paid for another mother@#$%@# in a motorcade

A:

On the V8s being cheaper thats just BS. Go price out a full roller setup for a big block or a nice set of cermaic coated headers from someone like Hooker. In the end though all cars cost the same to build 99% of people will call BS on that statement and thats fine with me but I see people everyday drop serious money on all kinds of cars and in the end it all comes up to about the same ammount though what makes the biggest difference in how much a build costs is whether or not you can spend money wisely.
As far as respect I had my car up at my shop today first time it was ever there. I had my RPS flywheel on the counter a regular customer of my came in he owns a T bucket and about crapped himself over the flywheel. I told him what I was doing to the car and so on and he was honestly interested in it. Ive got other V8 owners who are regulars who ask about my car everytime they come in because they cant wait to see it run. So yeah some guys do respect the Z cars some dont it just depends on how you present yourself and whether or not youre talking to an idiot.

I seem to break ground with everyone who says "pfftt, get lost" or the like.
All I do is show them Darius's video on my cellphone, then they shut up.
I don't tell them the whole story though ;)
