paint color

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

i havn't posted here in quite a while, but can't seem to get away from read'in the boards. i've owned my z for 17 years this month & decided it's time for paint. it's red & i want to keep it red,BUT there's a lot of reds to choose from. i actually went to the mall after work just to check out red cars in the parking lot. saw a vibe (lava red) and also a mustang (redfire) that caught my eye. anybody paint their z red? or own a late model red car? i'd appreciate any opinions regarding the year/model of any red colored car. i'll cruize more parking lots saturday. thanks

It's pure red, right in the middle of the red spectrum red. But you have to see it in person. Photos have never done it justice.
Perhaps you'll like it, too. Good luck.

how about the Interlagos fire on the new 350z's? its sort of a dark copper red that changes with the lighting angles to different shades

The 2000 and up Toyota Solara red is the color I have been eyeing for months now for my 260.

One nice thing about going with a factory color is touch up paint!
Also red tends to be pretty exspensive in my experience.
I went with Dupont Chroma premier. It adds up fast.

kevin i'm an ole geezer, turned 54 last sunday & i like candy apple. but i kinda wanted to go with a 'OE' color.makes touch'in up easier if i need to latter on.

ha ha! hey Frank we're both just as young as we feel..I would imagine those candy colors are unbelievably high too...who would have ever thought a gallon of car paint would be 300 to 500 dollars...that Viper red is pretty nice! Now to find a way to squeeze one of those V-10s in a Z!

A friend of mine had his car painted in PPG Ferrari Red. The painter, who is also a friend of our's dad, said it was the most expensive solid color paint that PPG made. Well worth it in my opinion. When he was finished painting and wet sanding he added pearl flames to the hood and fenders. The car was a '95 Sebring and looked gorgeous until someone keyed the side of it. Sucks because you can't have something nice without some low life tearing it up. The car needs an engine now thanks to a flash flood where he had it parked in Nevada of all places.

I believe that to get a true candy apple red (54 I love it also) you need lacquer. Not to many place do that anymore. Enviromental concerns I understand.
