Q:
Picked up a 96 Maxima with 154,000 miles for $1,500 Today. It's the donor for my future VQ in a Z swap. Nice.
It does have trunk and rear bumper damage but who cares since everything I want is up front anyway. Now to sell the leather interior and body parts to get a 350Z manual tranny, for $1,200. All Smiles here.

Are you sure a RWD tranny bolts up to it?
I know other Nissan engines (SR20 is one) have different tranny housing bolt patterns if they are FWD or RWD.

I just pulled the VE30 out of my 93 maxima for a rebuild. Guess what a Z tranny bolts right up to it, starter even works.

95-99 Maximas are powered by the VQ30
2000-2001 Maxima uses an Upgraded VQ30
2002 on up Maximas VQ35.

The VG engine were in the earlier Maximas.

Just a foot note for you guys thinking of the VQ swap. These early engines can be had for short money from junk yards in good condition. A place near me (MASS) has 12 of them, all under 200.00. car-part.com is a good place to do your local search. Last time I looked there were several hundred within a hours drive. I guess they don't break.

zchris, I have found these engines for around $300.00 myself, but it alone isn't going to do much good without a harness and system to run it on. The problem is finding everything else, Wiringharness, ECM. I am going to transplant it all into a z. That way I can change the timing and sensor settings with a Nissan Consult diagnostic tool. I work as a tech for a nissan dealership.
