I used to wheel all the time when I lived in Colorado, not much but mud here in the Texas flatlands, my last street/trail/rock rig was a '98 Cherokee with a 4.5" Skyjacker lift, rancho 9000's, truetrac rear locker, tomkin machine front and rear bumpers and rocker skids, and 33" BFG MT's, it was a blast, before that I had a '93 wrangler with a springover conversion and revolver shackles on 32" BFG's...I miss wheeling... :^(

I'm more into trail riding. Just going up to the mountains, put it into 4-Low and enjoy the scenery. I don't see the point in crawling up the side of a house sized boulder. I'd rather go around.

I hear ya Morgan, sometimes it's just nice to cruise, but I did like being able to put a wheel way up on a rock from time to time, it's fun! I sold my last Jeep shortly after moving to Texas, the only thing to crawl over is parking curbs!

I do it all the time, and I am into 4x's just as much as z's. I have a 95 toyota runner, with 7" lift, 35's, XD9000I winch, TURBOCHARGED 3.0 Liter V6, ARB lockers front and rear.
Lots of Z cars, 1970's-1983's.

Use to play up around the Rubicon, Death Valley, Nevada desert, and the 'easy' stuff of Moab. Really just trail riding, too cheap to want to bash a panel. Still have the truck, 1994 Toyota 4x4 XtraCab with a whimpy 22-RE under the hood. ARB front bumper, Rancho 9000s.
Always wanted to install a Downey long-travel suspension with 33's and ARB lockers front and rear. Also looked at the Marlin Crawler to get that 100:1. Decided the wheelbase of the XtraCab was too long to put all that into it.
But now the ZXT eats up the disposable income.

Ballistic, I had probably the single wildest ride of my life in a then brand new '87 K-5 Blazer, totally stock, I still cringe when I think about it, no injuries or major damage to the truck, but involved flying through the air at least 5 feet up for 80 feet or more, my 16 year old cousin was driving... scary

My best friend towed my '56 CJ-5 behind his '77 Chevy up to the mountains back when we were in high school. Took a hairpin turn to fast and put the CJ up on two wheels. Should have seen my eyes. I was speechless.

i really miss cruising in the mountains around cheyenne and laramie. there are some great spots there. since i moved over here to western nebraska the closet thing to a mountain is a big rock sticking outof the ground. the people here call it scenery, i call a big rock sticking out of the ground.

Have you been up to the area around Valentine? It's not really 4X4 country but the Niobrara River area was very beautiful. Until a fire swept through a couple of months ago. My best friend and I canoed the river this summer and I couldn't believe I was in Nebraska. Didn't know there were that many trees in the whole state!

no i havent been there yet but this spring i will have to check it out. thanks. back in the 70's you could drive all over vedawoo . that area brings a whole new meaning to rock crawling. il bet they dont let you drive in there much now. probably have to stay on the roads.

Vedauwoo is still pretty open throughout the area. It's called the "Pole Mountain Rec Area" now. Some GD treehuggers or greenies pulled some strings and prohibited discharging firearms during the summer months, but it's still a pretty good place to go fourwheeling or rock climbing.

lol, i didnt expect this on this site, i have an 85 k-5 blazer that i dont really rock crawl in, i just go "muddin" in it all the time, i love it!. i am actually about to go put new plugs in it right now, it has 33s and is about to get a 6" lift, ....awesome

Lifting a front tire doesn't happen often with a 122" wheel base truck.
After I took 12" out of the wheel base. Much more manuverable.
