SCCA Racers?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Are there any SCCA Club Racers (past or present) out there? I'm starting a build on a Z32 300ZX for the SCCA's new for 2007 Improved Touring R (ITR) class. Anyone run SCCA IT cars? Just looking for any pointers, racing stories, things to watch out for, etc. Any and all advice, comments appreciated!
As a result of this new project, my '93 TT is for sale. Check the classifieds if you're in the market.

Interesting line up of cars in that class.
I'm sure cmcneil has seen them, but the the ITR "provisional" rules I guess you'd call them are here:
http://www.scca.com/_FileLibrary/File/06-8-fastrack.pdf
Since its a new class it should only be a regional class untill the car count comes up and the class goes national. At least thats how it went for spec miata. Which tells me the early adopters will rack up points quick.
You'll be in the second heaviest weight catagory at 3250LBs ( after a lexus and bmw) so don't scimp on the suspension, the best motor money can buy won't make up for that in IT.
Beware of mid season rule changes, The ITS bimmer boys had to scramble on a air intake deal last year i think it was. Pay backs a b!(th ain't it, damned unpolicable ECUs, lets just make them legal, screw the guys with carbs.
It's to expensive to not have a sense of humor.
Show up at tech with 3 nomex socks and say "SAFTEY FIRST, look ma no HANS"
Go the the Turnworkers BBQ or whatever they do in your region and at least say "Thank You" and mayby get to know them those guys, they love raceing so much they'll stand out in the sun all day, get a crappy boxed lunch and let it all hang out for dinner. Not so many drivers do that anymore and its a shame.
If you don't do that at least wave to them on the cool down lap, an other tradition that seem s to be waning these days. Its a sign of respect for the people which will be there first when you wad the car up.
I'm a 240Z ITS hasbeen and I spent last weekend doing tire pressures and what not on miata, oh how we have fallin.
If I had known about zcar.com back then I might not have DNFed more times than I got fourth, but I had a lot of fun.
cheers

Get your $$ lined up now, cause you're gonna need it.
Of the 'cheap' motor-sports, it ain't that cheap.
First thing I would do, is get two sponsors lined up.
One that owns a body shop and another that owns a tuning shop, preferably with a dyno.
Once you get those two areas covered, you'll be in a position to tolerate some of the financial burden.
Car, trailer, tow vehicle, gas for both and entry fees are some of the least expensive elements of this sport.
Oh yeah, if you want to keep the sponsors, make sure you podium on a semi-regular basis. Nobody wants their name emblazoned across the car in last place, especially the tuner shop!
Tires, brakes, body work and blown engines can and do drive numerous competitors out of the sport on a regular basis.
Good luck!

IT has always been a regional category. SCCA has never seen fit to make any IT class national.

Duh, well I guess that explains why I wonder, where the IT cars are, when I show up at national event, which isn't that often.
