Check out my tweeters!

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Hi folks,
Well this week has been redo the stereo in the 77. Got the door speaker panels finished. I'm leaving the zebra wood ones in for the time being until I figure out how to do the upholstered ones.
Now the problem was what to do with these damn tweeters. I thought about mounting them on the dash but they stick out even in their "recessed" version and reminded me of pimples on the dash. I use a five wink mirror instead of the regular rear view mirror so I had this hole where the sun visor would normally go. I decided to rig up this gizmo to mount the tweeter to each side. Once you have them in you can actually turn them to the direction you want. In their final form when I'm ready to install them, I plan to cover the threads and other hardware in electrical shrink tube. That should give it a little more finished look. So what do you think?
Also, here is the speaker panel in the door. Doesn't look too bad and it will do for a while.
Just got them finished and ready to install.
Best to all,
John

That's neat. Very good idea. I'd just like to get the bodywork, suspension and drivetrain in mine. :(
You should fab up something real nice and pretty and then patent it!
I like what you did with the rest of the interior. Very clean.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

A:

Mike,
Thanks. With regard to your bodywork, suspension and drivetrain let me suggest a better perspective. IT NEVER ENDS! ACCEPT IT! Trust me on this one. Thanks again for your response. Good luck.

Steve,
Sure, come up with $800 and it's yours. If your car is 69 Corvette Orange, you don't even have to paint it!.

Daniel. The wheel is a Momo and I can't remember where I got it from. Probably whoever had it for the cheapest. I think I paid around $250 for it. I believe it is called the Millennium Edition. The little red switch doesn't do a damn thing except look really cool right now. Later I plan to add a set of driving lights and that is the switch. Oh, and by the way, that switch is orange. I am, if anything, consistent. Thanks again for the reply.

Jim,
Now I can't wait to tell unsuspecting folks that they're microphones and they should sing into them. How do you do that and keep a straight face?

So as to not bore all you folks, I'll wait until I'm finished to post any more pictures of the stereo install. Thanks for the thumbs up. See you all when I get finished. Kind of fun stuff but this 105 degree heat and humidity is for the birds.
Best to you,

I thinks that is a great idea and place to mount your tweeters. I may have to steal that idea from you, thanks.

Matt,
Glad you liked it. When you do this, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I'd be glad to help but they were soooo simple to do, I'm sure you won't have any trouble.

I'm kind of proud of this one. Thanks for asking. The color is from a 69 Corvette. Normally referred to as Hugger Orange unless you ordered the Corvette, then they called it something fancier.

That really is awesome man, it inspires me to want an earlier Z. Well deserving of that trophy except I dont like it sitting on the hood like that lol Even got the spark leads to match! That IS a car to be proud of man, and possibly the best color Ive seen on a Datsun Z yet. Good job! :)

300ZXT,
Thank you very much and believe me the trophy was well padded on the bottom and removed immediately after the picture was taken.

Oh cool, that was a good read. I hope to be able to share a similar story about my 86 when I'm done. Made me laugh about the mastercard part, I know that all too well :(
I think it's a good idea to leave it with the stock engine aswell, good call John!
