Clutch is slipping (venting)

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

GOOD NEWS:I went to autozone and they said they will fully refund my clutch which is good news. BAD NEWS. I have to do it in the next week because i am going on vacation. So at the end of my motor rebuild i was really strapped on cash and the last thing i had to buy was a clutch. I was only working with about 100 bucks. I had to settle with a Duralast clutch from autozone... HUGE mistake. It is only 2 months old and i have only dropped the lutch at 3 twice. it slips in first. Then first to second takes forever to kind of lock ingto second. then it just stays at one RPM like 5 grand or so waiting for the tranny to catch up with the motor. Even 3 slips at around 5 thousand. Is there any adjustment i can make to the clutch? Eh Just when i get my car running right to ... Any clutch recomondations?

hmmm.... ive never had problems with OE replacement clutches... but they werent duralast...
the reason i went through 2 was that it wasnt the clutches themselves, but a mix from a weak-a$$ pressure plate, and a leak from the front of my tranny getting oil everywhere.
just dont punch it, and save some $$$$ for a good one!

Something is wrong. Was the pressure plate new or reman? Reman may not have been built correctly. All the parts matched the old with no obvious differences?
Anyone can drive a new car.

I've used Daikin or nissan clutches and never had a problem. One of the main things is to "Break In" a new clutch nicely for a while before you try and "dump it" at 3. Once you've spun your clutch, it will do it again, easier if you're not easy on it for a while.

If you realize it's slipping, back off the throttle! Clutch slippage is very bad.

Roman, it almost sounds like an adjustment problem. Do you have enough free play in the pedal? Was the flywheel turned before you put in a new clutch? Did any other components change - trans, throughout bearing, clutch fork, etc?

JEff do you think my first step should be to adjust the pedal??? I think the pedal feels ok but as in freeplay i dont know what you mean. No other components changed. THe flywheel wasnt turned... i got mixed opinions about it.

I say I'm coming through town, and nobody calls.
Woodward. Bummer. Well, anyway, the Bugout in Milan was good.
Could have done Woodward. Boy would have liked it.

Reach down with your hand and feel how much the clutch pedal moves in the fore-aft direction. If there isn't enough freeplay, the clutch will always be slightly disengaged, causing it to slip and wear. I don't have the FSM handy, but I'd say 1/8 - 1/4" of movement at the pedal should be about right.
Tony, sorry we missed you the last time you were in town. Send me an e-mail the next time you are headed this way. Also, check out our club's website at Detroit Area Z Car Association and let the whole group know that you'll be in the area.

Jeff the freeplay is fine. The clutch is just pure crap... I went to go take a look ata boat yesturday and the owner happened to own Import mechanic shop... I am going to have him do the work so i can have it done by this weekend. He seems to be pretty reasonable and charges a flat rate. Jeff, I tracked down a 280z on Woodward, i let him know about the club and gave him the site

Cool. I also found a '77 - '78 2+2 in great shape parked in Northville yesterday. I put a note under their wiper with my name and the club info on it.

Sort of. It was an orange-brown color. It sort of looked like the Lemans Sunset 350Z, but more brown, I guess. It had a personalized plate with a U of M plate frame. I can't remember the plate, but it was Z something, or something Z. It had ZX 6-spoke wheels on it.
