Since when is free, selling something

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Why close a post on a Z site when someone is trying to give first shot to Z folks for a FREE Z shell. He is not buying or selling anything or advertising any sort of service. Seems like the post like "scary search records" would be closed before a car related post but oh well I guess you pick your battles.
Matt

A:

Yeah! And both of my grandparents live in San Diego - totally missed the post, but I'll take it. ZeeYah, are you still out there? My dad goes to SD all the time, trailer in tow...

Since when?
Since the beginning:
"Forum rules & guidelines are not up for debate. This is not a democracy, but rather a private forum. Moderators of this forum are not to be argued with when enforcing forum rules and guidelines."

A:

I was just waiting for your reply, I knew the almight all knowing you wouldn't be able to resist. Are you a moderator? Didn't think so, so BSTFU.
Giving something away is not selling or wanting it really is that simple. And the "rules" don't say anything about giving something away FREE. I know the rules and they are copied below for your reading pleasure. The most ironic part about it is there are ALWAYS non car related post in the forum that stir up all sorts of crap- and they don't get deleted as the last rule would have you expect. As has been the case for years, favortism plays a major role here.
Matt;
Members are to respect the designated TOPIC AREAS when posting their message. Those who post messages that do not relate to the topic area, will have the threads closed or the posts deleted.
Please do not post any profanity (harsh or mild) in the TOPIC/SUBJECT of your post. We want to keep the main forum pages presentable.
Dealer and private party advertising is prohibited in the discussion forums. All ads (for sale and wanted) belong in the Classified Ads area of the Marketplace. The advertisers on this site assume all resposibility for content and truth in advertising regarding their advertisement.
Car Talk Forum - This forum is for discussions relating directly to cars that do not fit any other forum. Topics may include those that might be found in a typical car magazine (Car & Driver, Road & Track, etc...). Standard Forum rules apply and this forum is not to be used as a soapbox, or to bash other makes/models/styles of vehicles. Only automotive related material will be allowed.

Matt, is there a list of those whom are allowed to respond to your posts? If you were looking for an answer from the moderators, email them. They respond pretty quickly to emails, or at least they have responded quickly to mine in the past.
Public complaints draw public responses.

who could respond? Anyone can that's why I posted this I'd rather have the communities response than an idividuals. If the majority says I'm wrong then I'm wrong, that's fine. I didn't say Hybrid couldn't post I said I expected him to.
As you can see I have posted the rules, no mention of not posting Free Z car related parts, yet how many post are there right now that have nothing to do with cars' yet the written rules specifically say don't do that.
I want public response, so thanks for your input.

"Are you a moderator? Didn't think so, so BSTFU."
I'm telling you what the moderators position is, nothing more.
It's there, clear as day, if you stopped bitching and just read it.
This is not a democracy so asking for a "group input" is a bit pointless...

A:

It's there to read - show me were it says anything about giving stuff away.
I wait to see were it's clear as day. It's not a democracy, but you sure act like you rule the site.
We'll just see what others say as I know more will respond. Hybrid your view is always negative, assume everyone is dumber than you, and you want to sound like the little angel whom does no wrong. Your not going to change my view on this, you've said you don't agree so move on and go find another post, maybe tell another person to "learn to drive" even though you don't know them or anything about their driving ability - that seems to be one of your favorite things to do.
Matt

A:

I can see where you are coming from, because I remember several posts in the past where people offer spare parts to others on this forum that did not get deleted. I don't have a problem with people announcing they want to give something away (as long as it's for a Z of course!)
Where I see a difference is if it is for sale. There is a classified here that the website owners probably get a fee for it's use, so that's where all For Sale items should be. The website costs money to operate, and that's a way to cover the costs so it's free for us to use the forum. That's not the argument.
What needs to be defined is whether offering a part for free constitutes "advertising". In some contexts this has been offered as an aside and not the main purpose of the post, and it was not deleted. So the question is...should it be allowed? Aparently, the moderators decided it wasn't. This time. Next week, who knows?

An amateur trying to restore the Z. I should have taken the blue pill!

A:

Hybrid is referring to the "not a democracy" portion as being clear as day.
His arguement is: It is clear as day you can't argue with the moderators.
He is not saying: It is clear as day that giving away is selling.
As usual he is twisting the arguement to make him right.

"This is not a democracy"
"asking for a 'group input' is a bit pointless"
You seem to *like* the idea of a completely rigid unmoving authority.
It is obviously ridiculous to disallow a post for a free z-shell, whatever the letter of the ZCar.com law is.

A:

Both,
It's not a democracy AND car/parts swapping has their own section.
"Members are to respect the designated TOPIC AREAS when posting their message. Those who post messages that do not relate to the topic area, will have the threads closed or the posts deleted."
A post was deleted.
Mods cannot be argued with.
Yep, plain as day.
I personnaly had no problem with it, but if the Mods delete it, it's THEIR website, not mine. We are all guests here so arguing with the people that make this site possible is not good form. Simple.

I only have one thing to say:
1976 280Z

1974 Corvette Stingray:

1994 Acura Integra:
1.8L, 5 Spd, 189,000 and Counting!

Within the last couple of weeks a guy gave away for free a 280z 2+2 on the tech forum, and nobody complained or moderated it.
Just letting you know that this was allowed or maybe the Mod.'s just didn't catch it.

77 280 Z

A:

Curently on the Tech forum someone slipped the type of advertisement that should be deleted in there. Three times at that. It should be gone in a litlle bit.
I think that the Mod.'s do a great job of keeping this site maintained, cleaned up and they may not always do what you would like them to, but it is there site, they pay for it not us so they get to make the rules. We should live by them, and be happy that this great site is availble to us for free. You may not always agree with there decisions, but that is there right to do so wether you like it or not.
There are other forums out there that are clogged up with crap, disorganised and spyware etc..They are not as enjoyable as this site.
Maybe send a note to the mods asking very nicely explaining the situation if they would allow you to post your item for free again.

Even in newspapers Free Stuff is found in the classifieds, not the business section or the Local section. The gesture is well taken that he wants to give his Z folks the first crack at it, but I agree it belongs in the classifieds.
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed. Belongs to me until my friend get's back from Iraq.

A:

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I wanted to give away a 240 a while back. No one would go to the classified ads and think "Hmmmm, wonder if someone is giving free stuff away?". I posted the free 240 here in Car talk because it would get seen here. I think the classifieds are for buying and selling. If there is a free car post in the classifieds is it ok to make a post in car talk directing people to it? If so, then why not just post the free ad here? Paul

"No one would go to the classified ads and think "Hmmmm, wonder if someone is giving free stuff away?"
Wrong.
People looking for project cars go there ALL THE TIME.
If you put "free" on the price, it will be noticed by people that are looking for a project cars and they will e-mail you first if it's what they want and it's close to them.
It's THE place for people that are actually looking for what you have!

Don't think so. Usually, like in my case, the donor wants it out of his/her yard and is trying to save it from the crusher. I didn't want people looking for project cars. I wanted EVERYONE to get a shot at it. It was no project car, believe me. But it did have alot of useful 240 parts left. Paul

progun, just becase YOU don't look for your next project in Classifieds does not support you twisted logic that others don't look for cars in the cars section. People look for 350z stuff in the 350z forum and they look for project cars in the FS/WTB area. SPAMMERS always think no one will see their add unless they post it everywhers. Dumb and damnable...

There is no "project" car here! I would look to the classifieds for a project. This is just a hulk someone is trying not to crush. How often does someone expect that to be in the classifieds. And how is offering a free car with possibly valuable parts on it spam? You want as many people to see it as possible. Even and especially ones who AREN'T looking. That's the point. Ditto Dattto! Nope, wrong again, not getting rid of parts, only the whole car. And don't want to limit peoples chances of getting a helpful item for free. All should know of it. Spammers want to gain something or make a buck. I defiinitely did not have any gain in it. It is only for the gain of others that I was making the offer. How is that SPAM again? It was going to get scrapped otherwise. I don't see why that is so hard for you to understand. Actually I see that since you keep using the same argument over and over after I refuted it you are just arguing for the sake of it. I understand the rules of the forum and abide by them. I would never post a sale item in car talk and I would always go to the classifieds if I want to buy/sell something. All Matt 78Z was asking and I agree is if something is given as a charity we should be fine to post it in any forum necessary to let all folks know about it for THEIR benefit only. If I have another parts car to give away I will definitely post it here again. You can even have it if you want Hybrid. Paul

LOL, no idea why anyone is yelling at all. I did not post the "spam" to try to reach as many people as possible and I have no power to delete said spam.
Funny how people gets defensive/offensive when THEY are the ones not following the rules. Lighen up an e-mail the mods directly if you want an explanation. Otherwise, you just throwing a girly pity party. Well boo hoo for you, your post was deleted, now butch up and move on.
