A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hope this works. I'm trying to place a few pics in the same post.
I wanted to add 6.5 inch speakers to the doors of my 77. The problem was that the previous owner installed 4 inch speakers and moved them back. No place to put 6.5 inch but down in the bottom corner and what do I do with the hole from the 4 inch speaker?
So I decided to make my own cover. The doors on the 77 are complicated (for me) with angles so I decided to piece together one made of particle board before I cut into the good wood.
Once that was done I repeated the procedure with the good wood.
Still a long way to go but I'm pleased with it so far. Not bad for my first try but man is it time consuming.
I'll keep you updated of my progress if this picture stuff works.
Thanks for looking.

I can't believe some people spend $15 on shifter bushings in the B trans

Darrel,
It is called Zebra wood. The material for those two pieces was $25. That's why I did a practice run with the particle board. Actually, I plan on upholstering the particle board pair to see how they look. Nothing wrong with options. That Zebra wood looks real nice with a satin finish on it. I used South American purple heart in my 83T when I installed the speakers in it. You can't find anything for these cars so it is off to the drawing board if you want speaker panels. Kind of fun but kind of a pain too.

Or you could copy the particle board version in fiberglass and sell them here on the forum.
Thats a good bit of speaker.

zebra wood huh? I guess it's all in the cut. It didn't have the pores like oak but had the look of 1/4 sawn. I bet it will look great when finished.

Yeah, that is beautiful grain in that wood. Just polyurethane on it would look awesome.

Possum25,
I agree with you on the wood part. Not sure if wood belongs in this interior so that's why the particle boards are getting covered in vinyl, just in case.

Yeah I would imagine leaving the wood grain exposed would just make them look unfinished...

had a strip across the top of the panel with a simulated wood finish surounded by chrome stripes. Yours apears to be painted black. I'm not sure why Nissan did this as they deleted all the other wood/like items that were on the 240Z such as steering wheel and shifter knob.
Otherwise those speaker mounts look very good. Post of pic of the vinyl when they are completed for sure.
Maybe stain the wood to match 240Z simulated wood parts and it would match the interior and look completely stock. That way you could have those awsome boxes and look like it was a factory option. Just a suggestion. They look very good.

Ray,
You're right, I forgot about that. The exotic wood place also sells their wood in veneer strips. If the wood boxes look good I could probably add that strip back to the door in the same wood. Hhmmm, something to think about. Still, when I think of wood in an interior I think of elegance. I was not going for elegance with "Spooky". But, we'll see which looks better.

Yeah, you can't have only one or 2 peices made out of wood. The wood has to carry through out the interior.
I saw a center console made out of oak and it looked out of place with the only wood trim in the car.
