Cheap high-performance

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Here is your challenge: what is the highest performance car (without any mods) you can buy used for under $30K, and stay within 10 years of age and low-ish mileage (ie. 1996 or newer and <50K miles)?
A friend who claims that the top-end Corvettes are the best you can get in that time frame. Vipers, etc. are all ridiculously expensive even at 15 years of age. Is he right?

A:

just saw a one owner viper in mint condition for sale here. it is a 2002 for $49,000. i know thats above your price range but if a 2002 is that price than older one should be less. it also has 26,000 miles on it. went for a test drive with a freind in it -he got it up to 160 mph easy. shifted out of 5th into 6th at 140!

http://www.zr1netregistry.com/ZR1_sale.htm There is a 1994 410 HP with 44,000 miles on it for $25,000 in amazing condition in Vincent, CA. Probably good for high 4 second 0-60 times, high 12 second or low 13 second quarter mile times and 190 MPH. With your criteria I think I win.

2nd the Atom.
...

A:

Yeah, the Ariel Atom would be great if it was registerable in more than three states. You can't get a used one in the states or drive it legally on the street. You did want to drive this on the street legally in the United States right? Or is this a question without restriction? If that's the case then a used Radical SR3/4 will eat anything for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on a circuit for around $30,000.00 other than the SR8.

Wow, if 30Kis your definition of "cheap", what's your definition of "performance"? Lot's of old Porshes, Vetts and TT Z32's floating around for far less than that.

A:

you could buy a cheap z32 put a brand new TT engine in it with a ton of upgrades run around 600-700 hp for 30K.
90 black 300zx 2+2 Twin Turbo 339 rwhp @ 15psi
JWT intake, B&B quad oval exhaust, tons of goodies
99' J-spec wing and front fascia, Moda R8 18in wheels
06 black Honda CBR 600 RR , 0-100-0 in 9 seconds

To answer your question...I believe your friend is right if people could read and follow the criteria of the challenge. A lot of people must have gotten the "Does not follow directions" complaint from their teachers in school.

"if people could read and follow the criteria of the challenge"
WHAT criteria?
What "performance" do you want to measure?
What do you mean by "price"?
A rich uncle that sells his kid his 1997 Ferrrari for $50 wins the "challenge".
Next.

A:

He said without any mods, and at least three people said "(cheap Japanese sports car) with 22k in mods will have tons of performance" or something to that effect. He also said the highest performance for 30k on a factory vehicle...pretty clear to me.

"tons of performance" or something to that effect"
I guess that makes it clear, LOL.
I would guess that a used racing go-cart would give the best 4 wheel bang-for-the-buck.
Next question.

A:

Pretty simple Hybrid what don't you understand.

1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.

A:

Me too, the Radical is exactly what it's name implies.
