roadsters

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I've been contacted and asked to work on 6 roadster by the same owner.
They supposedly are from an old Datsun dealership which no longer exists. They all have body damage in one way or the other.
2000 1969 SPL311 U20 high window
1500 1965 SPL310 R 1500 low window
1600 1966?SPL311 R 1600 "
1600 1967?SPL311 L16 "
1600 1967 SPL311 none "
1600 1966?SPL311? R 1600 "
They are weathered pretty bad. I could maybe assembly 2 cars from the list and they would still be incomplete.
They are bad but not as bad as the picture portrays them. They are partially disassembled. There are actually a lot more parts around, but no tops.
I only paid $1K for this car. It was completely torn down. To the crank torn down. The interior is in a plastic bag still. It only has a missing emblem so far... or at least a broken emblem.
or maybe scotch brite for the old crank... right Tony_D
So what should I offer for the 1600? I will be in charge of assembling what ever is left of these cars so it's up to me how complete the car I get ends up... U20's are hard to come by too. I've been told that they are spendy by a few people, but I can't seem to find any for sale.

There's a roadster list that can help. Call Les Canaday at Classic Datsun Motorsports and he'll plug you into the west coast roadster scene (you are on the west coast?).
They come up for sale quite often, running well and some in awesome condition. Lots of parts. Email me and I'll send you my contact and vendor list on Monday when I'm back at my office comp with all my info.
Make sure you've got a solid block and a full-thickness (or near) head as they're getting VERY rare. I bought a SRL-311 U20 head (not SPL, those are the 1600s) for $700 two years ago but it was the last one that vendor had.
Steering boxes are NLA, glass is NLA, etc. emblems and other body trim ( bumpers even) are available NOS.
In that condition, I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred bucks at most. They'll have to be totally refurbished. The frames are solid, but the bodies suffer typical Nissan rot.
Fun cars, though. MY dad's got a '69 2000 that I keep running. Just redid the entire interior. Awesome.

SRL 311 I checled to be sure...
The thing that confuses me is I thought SPL310 was a different body style. I guess it is just the G series 1500 engine and few minor changes in the dash and such.
I'll e-mail you thanks

Check out ebay as I see these cars on there quite often. I had three 1600's many years ago. The major differences with these cars was the dash and windshield changes. The low windshield models were made up until 67. 68 and newer are refered to as high window cars. The 67.5 SRL-311 cars are the most desirable of all to find; they have the low windshield with the nice dash and the 2000 engine.

I have a '68 2000 that I just finished a KA motor swap on. I have some parts left from the stock u20 like the Crank in good shape. Let me know if you need anything. email me at koonvee@yahoo.com
As far as an offer goes, those all need alot of work. I wouldnt pay over $1000 for any of them. Ive seen nicer ones on ebay for 2000-3000 for very descent ones. it would take you alot more to make one of these roadworth than only 2k. some parts are very spendy for these little bastards.
-Turbolag exists for the V8's to get a headstart.

The white 2000 on the trailer is pretty much all there. The dash is cracked, but he has a dash cover. The interior is all there cept for the seats which I will replace anyway. I am going to fab the old style dash into the 2000. The only issues that I know I will run into is the engine being apart for so long. I'm considering just buying a together and running engine to drive it around with. The car has no major rust issues. It has a few minor dents, but is in otherwise very good shape. The engine it has will most likely be rebuilt at a later time.
I would want the extra car for future parts. Having a set of extra fenders and doors around could come in real handy sometimes.
I'm tossing around the idea of either the 2000 or the 1600 as a parts car. I here there are some small differences that the 2000's had that are far superior to the 1600s like the steering boxes and frame reinforcements

Once you get info on value as is -
make a package deal on your labor to include that car for you.
Write a contract on it in detail with undstanding of what the other party will accept as a completed job.
Some parts may not be available and some work like conert. tops you may not be able to do. Whatever.
Get it all down leagally to avoid court later.
