I'd take the box all day long. Too bad it isn't a two-door!
Those are a blast to drive. (Box Skylines)

There wouldn't be a question of IF you'd buy it, it would simply be WHEN CAN I PICK IT UP?
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed. Belongs to me until my friend get's back from Iraq.
A:
That first picture that zwilliams posted looks very much like a mid-eighties Maxima, only nicer of course.

A hakosuka looks like a Maxima?????????
Makes me want to go light mine on fire right now!
Good thing I'm in CA now and the car is in TX!

I have heard "510" before, but 80's Maxima, not a chance!
Especially the G20 powered short-nosed Skylines. They resemble a 510, many common suspension components, but they're 10's not 510's!

I do like the datsun maxima's as well though.. stick a L28ET in there and have a nice sleeper.

Lemme elaborate on my opinion a little further before I'm pillaged here. I'm referring to the long, slabs on the sides and the rooflines and the overall boxiness of both cars, referring to the 4 door Skyline just to clarifiy any bomb throwing confusion here folks.

I agree...looks nothing alike. Looks way more like a 510 (here's mine)

Problem is the Maxima is the one with a SLAB SIDE.
The "Box" on the other hand has "The Haunches of Godzilla" on the rearmost parts---you will see that feature carried over to the "Plymouth Sattelite" Ken & Mary version from 73 to 77, as well as on the Pickup Trucks from the same vintage. It was a strong JDM Styling Cue!
Then there is the definite beltline buldge on the Box, totally lacking on the Maxima.
I will agree, the Maxima is a Slab-Sided 70's Styling Nightmare.
The Box, however, has classic flowing accent lines which are truly accentuated when seeing the car in person.
A Box attacks you from behind, and it looks like a Mini-GTO (got that Monkey-Mobile dip in the center of the hood, not really pronounced nor visible in photos unless shot to accentuate it!), whereas a Maxima comes up behind you and you think it's a Toyota Cressedia!
Slab Hood, Slab Sides, Boring: Maxima.
Sensual and Curvaceous: Hakosuka!

If you were to look closely, you will notice the Hakouska has the marker light out front of the wheel well, forward if you like, of the arch. The 510 has is above the arch.
On the G20 powered Skylines (Four Banger) the front was a good six inches shorter, and the marker light position for the front was exactly where the 510 has it's light: over the front portion of the arch.
It's a subtle difference, but noticable to someone looking for the differences. I would love to have an old Skyline with a G20 in an Estate Wagon Configuration, totally bitchen!

Here are some of the angles Tony was talking about. Please excuse the quality, I'm not the best photographer.
I have one of those books and it is pretty cool. It's all Japanese of course, but the pics are really nice.

and it's still a turd. A big brick of a turd. With some interesting lines if you look hard enough.
A:
I get the e-mails about being nice, and we have individuals posting inflammatory swarf such as this, with obvious intentions.
How pathetic. Grow up.

You do know you're not supposed to drink the bong water, right?
A:
It's early 70s Nissan and it's not particularly attractive.
A:
Honestly, you must be the first person on Earth to say something like that. Ever. I would highly suggest you either have your contacts inspected or better yet go in to check for a brain tumor. These are the only possible reasons for this kind of comment. You might want to stop driving until you get the problem fixed.
A:
all you guys gasping over the woohoo Skyline label would be going Gaaaaahh!! right now.
